The "voter turn-out" was VERY disappointing again. There are 40 names on the HJC Voting Committee list and only 5 people voted for Concept of the Week (February) and only 6 voted for COTW Feb 27 - Mar 4. Has HJC become stale? Have people found something else these past few weeks?

Still taking input on which competition to start next week. "Untouchables" ReDesign or WHA ReDesign? Both contests are getting pretty even support. Let your voice tilt it one way or the other!

Nashville Predators concept (by Spirit104)

I think I would personally prefer a logo as the primary crest and then have "MUSIC CITY" in the same font that is used for that Nashville script. I also think the numbers need some more character. The city of Nashville seems too lively for standard block font.

Winter Classic concepts (by Kris L.)

I like the Detroit concept, but the logo seems a little pixelated and the D shoulder patches appear too close to the collar. The Leafs concept is also good, but again the shoulder patches seem too close. Also, maybe it would be better if the sock stripes matched the hem stripe on this occasion?

Detroit Red Wings concept (by Tyler G.)

Tyler has used the old Cougars sweater, simplified the striping and changed the front to say Red Wings. Oh yeah, he's also made the jersey vintage white because it's a Winter Classic concept. Will the Wings wear something based on this jersey? They did "just wear" that retro sweater in the 91-92 season.

Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by D3troit1388)

D3troit has given a lot of his information about the concept in the bottom right corner of the image. Only thing I suggest is that the yoke stripes match the arm and hem stripes.

Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by Mason H.)

This is one of my favourite Leafs Winter Classic concepts so far. I would suggest making the outline on the numbers and captain C bolder. This is based on the 34-37 white jersey, the Leafs' first striped white jersey. COTW nom from me!

Winter Classic concepts (by Kevin)

I really like Kevin's Wings concept, except for the shield used with the captain's letters (based on the Cougars' logo). The problem with the Leafs jersey is that there is a different amount of stripes at each section of the jersey. The hem has one set of stripes, the arms have two, and the socks have 3. If that was the same all throughout I think the jersey might be better.

Tampa Bay Lightning concepts (by Hermilo)

Definitely a lot of character added to these Lightning jerseys! I actually kind of like it, for a 3rd jersey. All the elements that make hockey jerseys good are here, and then some character has been added. Really nice work.

Philadelphia Flyers concept (by Spirit104)

To me, the concept lacks the one thing that makes the Flyers great...orange! There's too much white and not enough orange here. As usual though Spirit, really well executed.

Boston Bruins concept (by Brady)

Brady has Edge-ified the 90's Bruins' alternate. He's also added the logo found on the current alternate. This is nearly perfect execution, but the yellow in the logo is not the same as the yellow used on the jersey.

Pittsburgh Penguins logo concept (by Martin)

I always can appreciate when people take the time to draw their own logos. That being said, this one isn't my favourite. I think a more streamlined font, rather than a hand drawn one, would have been better. Also, it looks as if the penguin has a tumor which is growing into the "P" in Pens.

Tampa Bay Force Lightning concept (by Nevill)

In completely untrue news, it looks as if the Emperor's purchase and renaming of the Tampa Bay Lightning has gone through. In typical Emperor fashion, he has used his own face as the team's logo. I guess we all have to cheer for Tampa now though, or else we'll get thrown out a window with the Force.

Toronto Marlies concept (by D3troit1388)

This is a really nicely executed AHL Outdoor Classic concept! I would be completely happy if the Marlies wore something like this for next season's game. In fact, I would seriously consider purchasing it.

Quebec Nordiques concept (by HJC)

I was trying to change the Nordiques colours and found it very hard to get away from the typical powder blue. So, I combined the new darker blue with the usual colours and created this concept.

Washington Capitals concept (by Brian B.)

This is an awesome concept! Brian calls it a "Heritage Fauxback", which I think is a perfect name. Great use of the unused logo and the stars that go down the sleeves to the throwback arm stripes are also perfect! No question, this gets a COTW nom from me!

Toronto Marlies concept (by HJC)

With this concept I tried to tie the Leafs and Marlies closer together by adding the hem stripes and altering the Marlies' logo. The old Leafs script, which the Marlies kept, continues to be used on this concept.

Cleveland Barons concepts (by WinnipegJets96)

Jets96 came up with what he thinks the Barons would look like if they were still around today. It looks like the white jersey has remained relatively unchanged. Jets96 has made the red darker though, I like that. I also agree that the old AHL Barons logo would make a reappearance in this "retro age".

Los Angeles Kings concept (by Mazzz)

I like that Mazzz has put the "LOS ANGELES" back on the hem. Unfortunately, the logos look too pixelated, especially the KINGS script on the helmet. I do like the collar choice, that fits the Kings name well.

Colorado Avalanche concept (by Sam O.)

A grey jersey for the Avs? I think that could work. I also think this could work even better with sprinklings of white. White added in the logos, in between the stripes, and in between the numbers and their outlines would really look great.

Florida Panthers concept (by Spirit104)

Yesterday, we had something like this from Dave C. On Spirit's concept he uses hem stripes. I also think this is a good look. What about a yellow outline on the yoke, do you think it's needed?

Team Slovakia concept (by Bobby P.)

I think this one is the best of Bobby's international concepts. I think the yoke detail is really well done. In fact, the whole concept is really well executed. The only thing I don't like is the white pants, but I accept that Bobby tried something out of the box.

All-Star Game concepts (by Avi)

You may have seen these on Icethetics a couple of weeks ago. I usually like the AHL ASG unis and I don't usually care for the NHL ones. Avi does a great job combining what is awesome about the American League's jerseys with what is good about the NHL's game. COTW nom from me!

Boston Bruins concept (by Rylen)

Rylen uses 3 shades of brown along with yellow in this concept. Usually I would be adamantly against that, but somehow it seems to be working on this fauxback. The only note is the TV number on the back of the jersey is upside down.

Boston Bruins concept (by Tex)

Tex creates this Edge-ified Bruins throwback jersey. The big wide numbers with no NOB looks great. It would be nice to see this 4-5 times in a season, just like the Canucks did with their 40th anniversary jersey. Awesome execution as always Tex.

Team Russia concepts (by Bobby P.)

I like the white jersey better than the red. I also think the yellow is too prominent. Used as an even smaller trim colour would be better. I like that Bobby put the NOB in Russian. Nice touch!

Winnipeg Jets concepts (by Torin)

These WHA throwback jerseys with the new crest are great! Although I think I'd like to see the stripes be thicker. The current shoulder patches might also add a little bit of life to these jerseys.

Original 6 concepts (by Stephen T.)

Stephen has an idea for a series of outdoor games between the Original 6. Nicely executed jerseys Stephen, except I don't care for the NHL Vintage logo used as shoulder patches on the Wings jersey.

Team Sweden concepts (by Bobby P.)

I think everything here is great except for the Coyotes font that is used. I think a standard block font, or something like that but thicker, would be better. The logo inside the circle looks really good, in my opinion.

Swift Current Broncos concepts (by Dustin)

Dustin has used the current logo with the home and road sweaters of the mid 80's to 90's. The alternate is a green fauxback, which looks pretty cool and classic. In fact, the whole set looks really good. Hockey sweaters just seems to look good in blue and green, for the most part. Nice job here Dustin.

Florida Panthers concepts (by Dave C.)

To me, this is a perfect Panthers jersey set! They're based on Djurgårdens of the Swedish league. The red jersey has the yellow trim which seems to be needed on the current version. The white looks great and is a nice compliment to the red one. The blue alternate follows the same striping pattern, but the logo gives it enough of a different look to be a good alternate to the home and road. COTW nom from me!

Phoenix Coyotes concept (by John H.)

This is John's first contribution to HJC. It's a good start, but there are a lot of things that need to be addressed here. First, the collar insert has been left blue from the jersey that was re-coloured to make this concept. Also, the player number on the back has been cut off. Next, the red used on the jersey does not match the red used in the logo. Start with these basics and your concepts will turn out much better in the future.

Team USA concepts (by Bobby P.)

The yokes are a neat idea. Team USA in the EA Sports NHL games uses the same thing. I don't care for the half and half collars. Overall, a good concept, just to me the blue looks more purple. Anyone else?

Monroeville Zombies concepts (by Stephen T.)

Who has seen Zack & Miri Make A Porno (Kevin Smith film)? Seth Rogen's character plays for this team in the movie, except they use very plain and boring grey jerseys with the logo at the bottom of Stephen's image. The problem with Stephen's concepts is that they are too dark. I had to get close to my screen to really see them.

Columbus Blue Jackets concepts (by Jeremy T.)

I like the arm stripes and the side panels are okay too. Perhaps thinner lines on the side might work even better? The font on the back of the jersey is used to match the font in the logo.

Dallas Stars concept (by Dave C.)

These are cool because they hint back to the North Stars, yet are not direct replicas of North Stars sweaters. One way to make these truly Dallas Stars sweaters is to use their darker shade of green rather than the old North Stars green.

Team Finland concepts (by Bobby P.)

I really like these. I think Finland has the most potential when it comes to international jerseys. I personally would do away with the dark blue yoke stripe and the "SUOMI" on the back. Just keep it to the front of the sweater.

Flint Tropics concepts (by John T.)

Another movie concepts today, this time from the movie Semi-Pro. Here, John has used the '09 All-Star Game sweaters for the fictional basketball team. I think it works really well and it was a cool idea to turn them into a hockey team. COTW nomination from me!

Colorado Avalanche concepts (by Justin C.)

Justin promotes the alternate and makes a matching road white. The 3rd jersey is really sharp. Actually, I really like all of these! As you guys know, I think Colorado should be first in line for an actual Re-design. Great stuff Justin, really well executed too.

Team Switzerland concepts (by Bobby P.)

I like the red jersey, but the white jersey done in the same style is way too plain for me. Also, on the back of the red sweater the collar is white, but on the front it's red.

Pittsburgh Penguins concepts (by Torin)

Here is another 80's retro set. Torin has also added the navy blue sweater from the early 80's as the alternate. The yellow he's used is a combination of the current vegas gold and the 80's gold.

Chicago Blackhawks concept (by Tyler G.)

Tyler has switched the logos, using the tomahawks as the primary crest. I'm not sold on that move, but I do like his colour choice for the stripes!

Quebec Nordiques concept (by Bobby P.)

The stripe across the chest has become tired. However, on this concept I inexplicably like it. Perhaps it's the red trimmed hem that goes well with it? Or maybe it's the faded retro colours? The only problem is the badly pixelated logo. Too bad, because everything else is nice and clean.

It looks like D3troit1388 has moved the Coyotes to Quebec and Edge-ified the old WHA sweaters for them to wear. Very good execution here!

Montreal Canadiens concept (by Anthony)

The jersey seems to work for the Habs and the colours look good together, but using the maroon of the former Montreal Maroons is a no-no. That would be like the Islanders going defunct, then the Rangers wear a blue and orange jersey 50 years later. The Habs and Maroons were rivals, very similar to the way the Nordiques and Habs were rivals in the 80's.

Winnipeg Jets concepts (by Thomas H.)

I love these! First, they are perfectly executed and secondly, they do a great job of using the modern colours, but also tying into the past Jets. COTW nom from me!

WEDNESDAY POST

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Jeremy T.)

Jeremy has Edge-ified the old Pens jersey. The chest stripe needs to go over top of the vertical stitching of the jersey. Also, the yellow outline on the numbers doesn't match the gold used on the jersey.

Dallas Stars concepts (by Caz)

I love the idea of a grey jersey, but I don't think this one is best for the Stars. I do like the striping going on at the hem stitching. That's an idea we haven't seen before.

San Jose Sharks concept (by Mazzz)

Mazzz has added the orange trim and the newer marks to the original Sharks jersey. Interestingly, the jersey cut appears to be a hybrid between the Nike Swift jerseys and the Reebok Edge jerseys.

New Jersey Devils concepts (by Stephen T.)

Stephen has replaced red on the original sweaters with black. These are nearly perfectly executed except for the lack of outline for the logo on the black jersey. I guess you could call these "retro black ice" sweaters?

Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by Spirit104)

This is perfectly executed, but I'm not digging the old Blue Jays font arched over the leaf logo. This looks like a beer league sweater for a team of Leafs fans.

AT&T Center - Detroit concept (by HJC)

The Joe isn't terribly old, but much like SkyDome in Toronto it has become one of those arenas that was built just prior to the "modern stadium age". This is my idea for a new Red Wings arena. Lower bowl is split by a walkway that goes all the way around. Upper bowl is broken into 4 sections and is divided by the 2nd level private boxes.

Dallas Stars concepts (by Michael L.)

The home and road aren't my favourites, but they do seem to be well executed. I really think that green 3rd has a lot of potential though! Well done.

Quebec Remparts concepts (by Alan)

This is the QMJHL team that Patrick Roy coaches. The castle detail on the arms, hem and yokes is nicely done. It gives them a unique look while staying within the typical boundaries that make up a good hockey sweater. COTW nom from me.

Ottawa Senators concept (by Stephen T.)

I sort of understand what Stephen is trying to do here, but logically that patch wouldn't work. When the jersey is worn half of the patch would slip under the player's arm.

Tampa Bay Lightning concept (by Deferoiler)

Unfortunately the logo here has been stretched far too wide and has become skewed and blurred. This also needs some TV numbers.

Boston Bruins concept (by Mazzz)

Another Nike/Reebok hybrid from Mazzz. Usually I don't find this logo to be proper as the primary crest, but it seems to work for me today. It would be great to see the Bruins use something like this as a new and better 3rd jersey.

Hartford Whalers concept (by Spirit104)

Perfectly executed concept here by Spirit. I like the arm and hem stripes. Perhaps the blue yokes would be even better with a double outline or grey and white? Nice concept overall.

Tampa Bay Lightning concepts (by GKennedy)

I really like both of these concepts! I think the same colour player numbers would work better on the blue jersey if the white outline was thicker. It would make them stand out more. I do like that idea though on a 3rd jersey or something. COTW nom from me!

Barys Astana KHL concepts (by Torin)

I like the arm stripe design that continues into the cuffs. Especially for a Russian league jersey. I can over look the NOB being in english, but the loose pixels around the logo on the white jersey are hard to ignore. Otherwise, good concepts.

Seattle Metropolitans (by John T.)

The shades of the red and green being used remind me way to much of Christmas. Also, the amount of stripes on the arms make me think of candy canes. I think if the red were blue, these would be really good concepts. Actually, they are good but the colours aren't.

Winter Classic concepts (by Josh)

Josh got these posted on Icethetics. He properly credited the logos he used in the version he sent to me, however he neglected to do the same for the version he sent to Icethetics. I had to inform Icethetics of what was going on and then it was corrected.

Nashville Predators concept (by Caz)

This is Caz's first contribution to HJC. He's used the Milwaukee Admirals colours (AHL farm club) for a new Preds look. TV numbers and captain's letter need to be bigger.

Los Angeles Kings concept (by Jeremy T.)

This is an interesting idea, using the old style "Chevy" logo and stretching it around as a chest stripe. I think the arm stripes should match the chest stripe.

Tampa Bay Lightning concept (by MasonII)

I like this black version of the Bolts' 3rd. I don't think the Islanders "stripes" shoulder patch works for the Lightning. Good use of Brian's mash-up logo though.

Lokomotiv concept (by Luis)

The old "Buffa-slug" jersey is to European hockey what the Bruins jersey is to the NHL. That jersey would look good for almost any European team. Great job here with the accuracy of all the logos!

Detroit Red Wings concept (by Jack)

Reprising the retro jersey that the Wings wore for the 91-92 season seems to be one of the most popular choices for the Winter Classic jersey. Again, this raises the question of who will wear white that day.

These are two wonderful sweaters! Near perfect if you ask me. I would only do away with the coloured namebar on the Wings sweater. Otherwise a COTW nomination from me!

How 'bout a retro Pens sweater with a wordmark, in the same style as the current Sabres 3rd? In my opinion, not a great choice for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but could work really well for the W.B.S. Penguins!

Dallas Stars concept (by HJC)

This is based off of an old Iowa Stars sweater. I appreciate the reasoning behind Dallas using a football inspired wordmark on the front of their sweaters. I get it, but I also think some sort of logo needs to be there as well. I tried to strike a nice balance with this concept. The pants also take inspiration from the North Stars.

Los Angeles Kings concept (by MasonII)

We've seen similar concepts to this before and they continue to work well. I think that LA shield looks great as a shoulder patch. The hem stitching should stop at the hem stripes.

Milwaukee Admirals concept (by Spirit104)

Milwaukee has some great logos, but their jerseys are plain and boring Reebok cookie cutter sweaters. Spirit does a good job getting away from that for this 3rd jersey concept. I would make two changes, but these are just personal preferences. I'd use a white NOB and I'd also use the really clever logo where the skeleton is using his leg as a hockey stick.

California Golden Seals concepts (by Georges)

I really like the logos and jersey striping that Georges has created for these concepts. I see the jersey stripes and think of the waves in the bay under the Golden State Bridge. The primary logo is a great modern logo for the defunct team and the shoulder patch is perfect. I think the shoulder patch is ready for the NHL, while the seal logo looks more AHL/ECHL to me.

You may have seen the first All-Star Game video on the Blue Jackets' website, or the write-up about it on Icethetics. In that video we get a look at what seems to be an unused Jackets logo concept.
Avi has taken a stab at recreating that logo.

It's really clean and solid work. I just think the shield needs to be a little more stout. It also appears that a more "box" font should be used rather than the Jackets NOB font.

This Rangers Winter Classic template is quickly becoming much like the Bruins' template. It looks good on almost any team. This is a nicely executed concept by Tyler. My only quip would be with the brightness of the red. Could it be toned back a little?

How about yokes on a retro Pens jersey? To me, this now looks to have too much yellow. Also Jack, I think you need to make your mesh effect darker. It's a bit distracting on this concept.

I think this jersey is so close to being just right! Get rid of the Sabres' vertical piping and bingo! I can even live with the coloured arm pits. Silver might be better than white though.

This idea fits in with the Johnny Canuck logo perfectly! I wouldn't necessarily want to see this on the ice, but I think it would be great as a fan jersey. Just like those "black ice" sweaters, but better obviously.

Chivas concept (by Luis)

Chivas has 3 football (soccer) clubs in North America and Luis wants to give them a hockey team as well. The jersey concept that he created works surprisingly well as a hockey sweater. The Adidas socks look perfect too. Perhaps these guys could play in the newly formed Mexican hockey league?

Carolina Hurricanes concept (by MasonII)

Everything is great, but again I find the red to be too bright. I also think using the regular logo would look better, but this black and white one works as well. Almost perfect execution except for the vertical stitching continuing past the hem stripes.

Minnesota Wild concepts (by Shane P.)

These are some really great concepts! They "snowy night" theme of the 3rd jersey is spectacular. The design on the pants is perfect, the Wild should use it immediately. My only wish is that the primary logo used on the home and road was consistent, either the wordmark or bear head. COTW nomination from me!

Nashville Predators concept (by Cody)

I like the stripes and the collar choice. I don't like that the blue on the sweater doesn't match the blue in the logo. I also don't like that the socks weren't done. These are indications that this was a rushed job, which is too bad because it has a lot of potential.

I like both Leafs jerseys, especially the blue one, but Potvin wore #29. I like both of the Wings sweaters, but I think they don't need the Detroit Falcons' yellow outline. These are well executed Stephen, some of your best yet.

The Leafs jersey is good. I appreciate the blue letters on blue jersey (a nod to Harold Ballard's stubbornness), but obviously both the NHL and NBC wouldn't go for it. I also think the TV numbers need to be bigger and bolder if they are going to be white. I think the Wings' jersey is great, but it could do without the yokes.

Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by Jack)

This is a nice classic jersey based on the sweater of the 30's. It truly will be interesting to see which team wears white and if that white will be true white or vintage white. Nice concept Jack, well executed.

New York Islanders concept (by Kris L.)

Kris is pretty straightforward with his Isles black 3rd jersey. Now that some time has passed, I'm not so sure anymore if this is a better option than what they wear now. Still, what they wear now may go down as one of the worsts.

London Knights concepts (by GKennedy)

For GKennedy's first HJC concept he has Edge-ified the pre-Edge London Knights (OHL) sweaters. I prefer the set they wear now, however this does look good and is well executed. A perfect hybrid for me would be to use the current sweaters with these logos.

Brandon sent these in before the competition was announced, but I would suggest sending them in again as part of the competition. They are very good. Colour choices, shoulder patches, and stripes are all really great!

Calgary Flames concept (by MasonII)

Yes, this is a Sabres re-coloured jersey, but I think it looks pretty good in Flames' colours. Perhaps changing the outside yellow stripes to black would really help make it a Flames concept. Also, removing the vertical piping would help, regardless of the team.

Winter Classic concepts (by Elias)

This is an idea that Elias had for the 2012 Classic, Jets vs Coyotes in Winnipeg. I like the idea of the event logo that he's put together and that Jets jerseys was posted before and I still like it. I don't get the purple on the Coyotes sweater though. I like the primary crest, but I think the coyote should be bigger and the sun rays more muted.

I think these are great as a jersey set for the Flames! The only change I would make would be to use their unique NOB and player number font. I also really like the pants and the lack of collar laces.

This simple and classic design would work quite well for a Wings Classic sweater. However, just like the '09 game, I would place the Wings logo on there as shoulder patches. Great choice with the brown vinatge gloves as well.

Montreal Canadiens concept (by Tex)

Tex gives us a vintage Habs sweater, which I think would be great as a 3rd jersey. Perhaps for Saturday night games? However, I personally prefer the TV numbers to be white instead of blue.

Edmonton Oilers concept (by Brandon C.)

This oil drop logo looks great on an orange version of the current sweaters. It will be interesting to see if the Oilers test the water and try an orange alternate in the future.

Binghamton Senators concept (by HJC)

Obviously this is inspired by the parent club's new 3rd jersey. The logo is also inspired by the logo found on Ottawa's home and road sweaters. The font is the old Sens font, but the B-Sens still use it.

Jack has simply replaced the vintage white with true white. Any better? I think I prefer the vintage white for this concept.

San Jose Sharks concept (by Martin)

A couple of weeks ago we saw a green version of this jersey from Martin. Now he has sent in a black version. I just really think this would work better with teal instead of green.

Winter Classic concepts (by Brian R.)

I would prefer to see a more sports type font for the jerseys. I think the Wings sweater is too obviously a Minnesota alternate. The Leafs sweater is ok, but I don't think the Arenas' shield and the 67 Leafs logo work well together.

Detroit Red Wings concept (by Cody)

Sticking with Classic concepts, Cody gives us a "stripefest" of a Wings jersey here. I do like the diamond used with the captain's C. I like the striping that's going on in the yokes, but its thin and the stripes on the rest of the jersey are thick. I'd say use thick or thin.

Winter Classic concepts (by Spirit104)

Spirit wanted the Winter Classic to go in a different direction, further west in fact. He gives us these concepts for a Classic in St. Louis. The Wings jersey is good and we saw that Blues concept last week from Spirit. The logo is good, but it would be best as a wordmark for the event. Then add some more life to it for the actual event logo.

Calgary Flames concepts (by Thomas)

As much as I like the horse logo, I think the flaming C has become too iconic in Calgary. The horse then would be best suited for the shoulders or an alternate. I also prefer when the home and road sweaters use the same logo. The alternate that Thomas uses, while it is well executed, screams 1990's to me. The whole concept is well executed.

Connecticut Whale concept (by HJC)

I have used the wave pattern from their current sweaters an added some outlines to replicate the Whalers blue jersey of the mid 90's. The shoulder patch used comes from a hoodie being sold in their online store. With all of Connecticut's marks and font, I think it turned out alright.

Boston Bruins concept (by Jack)

With a little modification to the 1926-32 jersey, Jack has made this Bruins fauxback concept. I like it, but I think the numbers on the back should be yellow or black. Perhaps a spoked B logo as a shoulder patch too? I also like that Jack resisted placing collar laces on this just because it's "vintage". Execution note, the chest stripes go over the stitching, not under.

Boston Bruins concept (by Jack)

A throwback from Jack. Another Bruins concept from Jack, and this one is the sweater the B's wore for 2 seasons before ditching the brown for black. Jack has Edge-ified this and I think it works well on that cut. Nicely executed.

Nashville Predators concept (by Mason H.)

Mason tries his hand at a new Preds 3rd that again uses the checkerboard pattern. I like the idea of it in the collar, that looks cool. When I look at this I can see that it is really well executed. I also notice the lack of yellow, which I seem to want in there...somewhere.

Yesterday I posted an Avs concept by Brian that was based on J.S. Giguere's mask. Brian has taken that concept and "fauxbacked" it. The Colorado "C" on the shoulders looks great and I still love that "sash" down the front. Really nice job Brian.

Jersey Collection (Tom)

Two Dany Heatley jerseys is two too many in a collection. I'll also ignore the copious amounts of Ottawa Senators sweaters, haha! Being from the area, you can't expect anything less of Tom than to cheer his hometown team. The authentic All-Star Game sweater from this season and the authentic 2007 Stanley Cup Final sweaters are pretty impressive though.

Saskatoon Panthers concept (by Chuckie)

Chuckie has relocated the Florida Panthers to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He's also changed their colours and given them a new logo. The Pink Panther.

Quebec Nordiques concept (by Jeremy T.)

Chicago Blackhawks concept (by Stephen T.)

Stephen has a pretty cool idea, when Original 6 teams play each other he would like them to wear special sweaters. I like that idea, and they did something similar for the 91-92 NHL 75th Anniversary season. This jersey looks like it could be cool, but it seems that the left arm stripes don't match the right. Also, the jersey shading has not been filled in and that really distracts from the sweater.

St. John's Shamrocks concepts (by Trevor R.)

Another set of sweaters from the movie "Goon". I think this sweater could have even been better if the S was the main crest (like the old Seattle Metropolitans) and the circle logo was the shoulder patch.

Washington Capitals concept (by Spirit104)

I like this retro inspired sweater. I'd get rid of the collar laces and make the NOB white with a blue outline though.

Colorado Avalanche concept (by Brian B.)

Brian based this concept off of Avs tender J.S. Giguere. Check out that mask HERE. I really like the "rays" design on the front and arms. I also like the wordmark and sash across the front. It's also neat that Brian got his inspiration for this from the goalie's mask.

Dallas Stars concept (by Mason H.)

I love this!!! I look at Mason's concept and think maybe the Stars need to go back to the drawing board and start over? A completely new look. This is awesome as it says Texas through and through, still looks like a hockey sweater, and uses colours that have been underutilized in the NHL to this point. COTW nom from me!

Halifax Highlanders concepts (by Trevor R.)

These are the sweaters for the main team in the upcoming movie "Goon". Nice job by Trevor replicating them. If the movie is somewhat popular, perhaps they will manufacture these sweaters and sell them. Am I the only hockey fan who thinks this is going to be a really bad, really dumbed down hockey movie? Am I the only hockey fan with no interest in seeing it?

Edmonton Falcons concept (by Chuckie)

Woah, there are a lot of colours here. I can see yellow, 2 shades of blue, and purple. I would slim it down to just two colours and I'd make the helmet the colour that's not yellow. Also, it's spelled Gretzky. I'm trying, but I can't find too much to like about this one.

Team Germany concepts (by Brian R.)

Brian R.'s first concepts to HJC are for Team Germany based on the old Blues' sweaters. I think this is a good look for the German team. Some execution notes include, the shoulder patches on the black jersey. They have been executed properly on the white sweater, but not the black one. Also, the player number should be placed higher up on the back.
Slayer concept (by Kyle C.)

Kyle tells me the band Slayer are big hockey fans. They even have hockey sweaters as part of their merch at their shows. Jere Lehtinen is used on this concept because he is a big fan of the band. If my favourite band (Foo Fighters) sold hockey sweaters, I'd probably buy one. Nice work Kyle.

Ottawa Senators concept (by Spirit104)

Good concept, but I think it would look even better without the yokes. Maybe black yokes with a double outline, if you HAD to have them. I also personally don't think that both the side profile and the front facing logos should be used on the same sweater. It's one or the other. Still, this is a good and well executed concept.

St. John's Ice Caps concepts (by WinnipegJets96)

I'm always a fan of this wider retro font an most any concept. I like the jerseys, but I think the coloured cuffs really don't add anything. If they weren't there these would look more appropriate for a professional team. Also, the Reebok logos on the sweaters need to be executed better and the loose pixels around the logo on the blue jersey need work.

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Mason H.)

We now move up to the big club. I like the pilot wings on the cuffs and the Canadian leaf as a shoulder patch is cool, if this is a 3rd jersey. I think that the top blue stripe on the sleeves needs to match the thickness of the same stripe on the hem. Nice work Mason, I really like this one, as such a COTW nom from me!

Quebec Nordiques concepts (by Brian D.)

I really like the colour choices, for the Nordiques, but there are way too many fleur de lis! I'd say have them on either just the hem and the yoke or only on the cuffs. I really like that alternate jersey! It's unique and cool, but would also be considered an "acceptable" hockey sweater. Speaking of the Nordiques, are the Coyotes coming to Quebec? Seattle? Southern-Ontario? Staying in Glendale for another season?

COTY Championship Plaque Has Arrived

The 2011 Concept of the Year championship plaque was delivered to me today. It will now be sent to 2011 COTY champion Josh S.

Josh, I will try to ship your prizes out to you this weekend. Due to financial issues, I may have to ship it using the 6-8 weeks method...sorry. On a brighter note, I was really happy with the 6 inch by 8 inch plaque. The quality seems great. I had it made by PlaqueMaker.com. Josh also will be getting a 2011 HJC t-shirt.

St. Louis Blues concept (by Mazzz)

The two things I don't like are the white logo and the stripes under the arms, which just come across as re-coloured Lightning victory stripes. The rest of the jersey is cool and those Preds numbers really fit well with this Blues look.

Sydney Piranhas concepts (by Chuckie)

The colours fit the team name well. Also, a good choice on the font, but I don't care for the S logo. Finally, because the fish already appears under the wordmark, I don't think the number should as well.

Buffalo Sabres concept (by WinnipegJets96)

I posted a concept similar to this by Brian B. a couple of weeks ago. That inspired Jets96 to do his own version. I'd prefer the shoulder patches to be the same, probably the buffalo head logo. Also, the red in the logo and on the player number is not the same red that appears on the jersey stripes.

Kris makes the common hem adjustment to the Flyers Classic sweater. Too bad the captain's C is so pixelated. Same with the shoulder patch. Here are the keystone captains letters for those that need them.

Justin has combined the straight sleeves of the Edge jerseys with the "mountain" hem of the pre-Edge sweaters. He's also replaced the black outline on the home jersey with a grey one. Nice work Justin and even though I'd like to see the Avs go in a completely new direction I could accept these as a new and better look to the current Edge sweaters.

St. Louis Blues concept (by Spirit104)

This is a really good and clean concept from Spirit. Really nice work here. I only have two small insignificant notes. One, I'd make the collar insert something other than white. Two, I'd make the yoke outlines thicker. Perhaps have one outside the yoke and then one inside? Still looks good as is though!

Several days ago Brady sent in concepts for his high school hockey team. Today we get another one. I like this one as I think it looks cool, classically inspired, and unique. COTW nomination from me.

Carolina Hurricanes concept (by Mazzz)

Another idea here for the Canes to use a Whalers inspired sweater for a Winter Classic. I'd use the Hurricanes' logo as the primary crest instead and I'd keep the white gloves for All-Star teams only. Just to clarify, some people may still believe that the city of Hartford owns the trademark for the Whalers logo. That WAS correct, however they did not renew said trademark (or it expired) and now the situation is a little mirky, but it boils down to the NHL now thinking that they have legally picked up the trademark. Which is why they officially released some Whalers merch at the beginning of last season. Final note, I'd get rid of the green background...or any background that is the same colour as the jersey(s).

Youngblood movie concept (by Dave C.)

I've never seen Youngblood, but from the looks of it Rob Lowe played on a junior team with their sweaters modeled after the Detroit Red Wings. Dave has Edge-ified those sweaters. Some execution notes include the vertical stitching and the TV numbers going over top of some stitching on the arm. The numbers should be above or below that stitching.

How about some pre-Edge Thashers concepts! I really like the blue jersey. However on both sweaters, the sleeve stripe is outlined in yellow. I think both the hem stripe and opposite arm stripe should get the same treatment. I never loved the design on one sleeve look, but at the same time I didn't despise it. Did you guys like it or hate it?

I like both the home and road concepts, but the thorough use of blue on one jersey and the lack of blue on the other don't seem to give the two concepts much continuity. The black alternate is too plain for me and seems "black for black sake".

This was a possible entry for the All-Star Game competition a couple of weeks ago. Brian decided to go a different route, obviously. I like the combination of retro and current sweaters in these concepts. I also enjoy how both eras are clearly recognizable in the sweaters. Really great job here Brian.

Colorado Avalanche concept (by Thallos)

I think this is a really great Avs 3rd jersey concept! Of course the clean and professional presentation helps it, but even without this would still be great. I've never thought that the "big foot" logo was strong enough to be a primary crest, but I think the stripes on the side panels helps frame this logo and make it work. The darker blue looks really good as well. COTW nomination from me!

Kölner Haie vs DEG Düsseldorf DEL concepts (by Martin)

These are Martin's concepts for a German league (DEL) Winter Classic. I like the Kölner Haie sweater a lot. The DEG Düsseldorf is okay. I think that both sweaters would be better if they got away from the New York Rangers player number style. Also, the vertical stitching has been executed properly on the Kölner Haie concept, but not on the other one.

Tampa Bay Lightning concepts (by Cody)

Cody uses the original Lightning blue which is called "Hawaiian Blue". These are pretty good concepts. Even that blue one could be a good 3rd jersey possibility for the current set. This is probably Cody's best work to date and well executed as well.

Atlanta Thrash Hawks concepts (by Kevin)

Kevin has done something here that I've seen a couple times before, where he has used the marks and colours of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks with the Thrashers' old sweaters. It does look quite good and Kevin has done a really good job executing it. The 3rd is my favourite of the bunch.

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Martin)

Martin keeps going with the outdoor game concepts with this Penguins...Heritage Classic concept. CBC runs that show, but I guess if NBC can allow a Canadian team in the Winter Classic then CBC can allow an American team in the Heritage Classic. The mustard yellow and the grey both really turn me off of this concept.

Dinamo Riga KHL concept (by Brady)

You can see this club's actual sweaters here. They look the be modeled after the 2007 & 2008 NHL All-Star jerseys. Brady's concept does a great job getting away from that and giving Dinamo Riga their own look. The only addition I would have made would be to keep the skyline at the hem of the jersey. Nice job being accurate with all of the sponsors. In case anyone didn't know, there is a KHL template on the TEMPLATES page.

HJC concept (by Brian B.)

If I could afford to produce HJC jerseys to sell this would be a wonderful look! I might take away the stars from the front, but it still looks really solid and the striping is fairly unique yet simple. Great job by Brian remembering that my goalie number is 29. I also wear 16 when I'm a skater.

2013 All-Star Game logo concept (by Avi)

Avi was able to teach himself some basic aspects of Illustrator and in doing so was able to create this awesome All-Star Game logo for the 2013 edition in Columbus. All the elements look great here. A change I might make would be to move the "COLUMBUS-2013" above and out of the circle. In the circle, I would place white stars. Either way I still give this a COTW nom!

Dallas Stars concepts (by Stephen T.)

Just when Stephen gets nominated last week he comes back with a rather weak effort here. No TV numbers and there are loose pixels where the side panels, chest, and arms all meet. It's frustrating to see this kind of effort.

Carolina Hurricanes concept (by Martin)

As a lot of you would like to see, Martin suggests that if the Canes are in a Classic that they wear something Whalers inspired. I think for this one the stripes are too thin and I'd also do away with the vintage white. Perhaps more silver would help?

Anaheim Ducks concepts (by Colin M.)

These are based on all of the alternate sweaters the Ducks had during the 90's. I think the home and road look pretty good. Yet, I do think that the shoulder patch gets lost in the stripes. I think the Wild Wing alternate may be a better places for those patches. Also on that alternate, I'd make the hem white instead of black.

New York Islanders concept (by Kevin)

Kevin tries to do the fishsticks jersey his way here. I like the arm stripes and the font choice, but the hem stripes don't work, I think anyways. I don't like how it comes to a point. More of a "wave" motion would be better.

Montreal concept (by Martin)

Martin has combined Montreal's pro hockey teams into one sweater here. I like the logo mash-up and the choice of colours for the jersey. I think the shoulder patches clutter it up a bit. Those logos are already in the main logo, why also have them on the shoulders? Execution note, there are uncoloured pixels at the bottom of the front of the sweater.

Phoenix Coyotes concept (by HJC)

Really there's not much to say here except this is a simple fauxback concept. I just went with the Coyotes' colours and tried to place them on somewhat of the vintage striped jersey. Then I tried to think what their logo would look like if they were around in the 40's and 50's.

Minnesota Wild concept (by Brian B.)

I don't love this concept and I think that's because there's not enough green. That might change if the green and wheat changed places. Also, even if this jersey stayed the same I don't think a red helmet works. I do really like the single stripe on the green pants though.

Peoria Rivermen concepts (by Chris Z.)

This is better than what they wear now. I would like to see the yellow somewhere on the hem. I get the whole waves thing at the hem right now, but when I look at the arms it just doesn't seem to fit well together. Still, that seems to be only a small thing, this concept is pretty good. I love the retro jersey. The execution is near perfect here except for the lack of Reebok tag. That's the last time I'll mention that on Chris' concepts.

These are great Sharks concepts! As we've seen demonstrated by the farm club, the Sharks are probably the best suited team to have a grey jersey. The orange trim is perfect as is the shoulder patch choice. I love everything about this concept, COTW nomination from me!

You have probably been reading a lot about me mentioning the vertical stitching on jerseys and concepts. I usually talk about where it should end and when it should hide behind stripes. I took some quick photos with my phone and I hope they will help you to better understand how this stitching should appear on your concepts. For the best example, I have used my game-worn Leafs jersey.

As you can see in the photo, the vertical stitching runs down the sweater from the yokes to the hem stripes. The hem stripes are where the stitching stops and again you see that the stitching does not continue after the stripes. Picture the sweater being built. They would start with a fully blank white jersey. They would then cut at the hem where the stripes are to begin. Add the stripe, then add a new piece for the curved hem.

Here's a closer look at the stitching. Again, note how it stops at the hem stripes and does not continue. Any kind of stripes or patterns on your concepts should go OVER TOP of the stitching and if that pattern occurs at the hem, then that is where the vertical stitching would stop.

Here is an example of how this sweater should look in concept form.

A few days ago, Icethetics gave us the first JerseyWatch post of 2012. Obviously he has some inside information and has a grasp as to what is going on. I on the other hand have no information yet I am about to make some wild and educated guesses as to what possible new sweaters we may see on the ice for the 2012-13 season.

Chicago Blackhawks
It's reported that the Hawks will return to their classic black 3rd jersey that they used from 1996-2009 (excluding the 2007-08 season). I know a lot of people love this jersey, but I am not one of them. I find it plain and boring. I find it to be "black for black sake". It wouldn't be my first choice, but if the Hawks want to go back to a black 3rd based on an existing sweater, at least make it the red sweater. I've posted a few concepts before with some retro alterations, but I feel this would be good. It wouldn't be a re-hash of what they have worn previously, but it would be based along the lines of the old black 3rd which was popular with fans.

Philadelphia Flyers
Even prior to the reveal of the Winter Classic sweater Kevin, who works at the Flyers Store, has been telling me that this will become the 3rd jersey for next season. It would seem to make sense as in previous years, clubs have worn their Classic jersey for at least one regular game in their home arena for their home fans. The Flyers have yet to do that this year. Perhaps because they are not worried about giving the non-Classic attending fans a look at the sweater live since it will be seen 12-15 times next season?

Pittsburgh Penguins
Okay, here is the most outlandish prediction of the batch. Penguins going retro inspired? Hear me out. First, the W.B./Scranton Penguins wear the black version as a 3rd jersey this season, but they have a new 3rd jersey for every season. Maybe they are testing it out for the big club? Next, it seems that most teams are slowly trending away from the Reebok "cookie cutter" designs, is "the 'Burgh" next? Finally, JerseyCity.ca put their Penguins authentic sweaters on "super clearance" this week (70% off). Why are they trying to get rid of them? Do they know something already that we don't?

Tampa Bay Lightning

It's no secret, the Lightning have said that they will try to work some more black back into the new team look. They also have said that they will bring back the victory stripes under the arms at the request of the fans. If I were to throw out a guess as to where that black in the uni will be, I'd have to say pants. Maybe the pants they wear now with the 3rd jersey, but with a simple white lightning bolt outlined in blue.

Winnipeg Jets
After Winnipeg announced, at the draft, that they were going to call themselves the Jets, Mark Chipman was constantly asked about bringing back the old look. He said something along the lines of a retro 3rd jersey was being discussed for the 2012-13 season. There's no way that TNSE can't capitalize on the Jets league wide popularity right now and not bring out a new sweater for people to spend money on. However, I don't think they will bring out an exact replica of the old sweater. Fans in Winnipeg already have that jersey and won't spend $130 just to update it. I think TNSE will want to continue to build upon this new Jets brand and create some sort of hybrid retro jersey. Hey, these guys were going to stick with the Moose name before fan pressure caused them to use the Jets!

Again, these are just random guesses which are shaped by my own thoughts. Don't consider any of my predictions as coming from an "inside" or "reliable" source.

Wolfenbüttel Wolves concept (by Martin)

This is a concept team that Martin created for a town in Germany. It also uses the Coyotes logo and is meant as a roller hockey team. If you're calling them the Wolves why use a coyote as the logo? This would probably be more suited labeled as a Coyotes concept.

Vancouver Canucks concept (by Elias)

That would be some good looking equipment for a Canucks goaltender. I like the yoke design, but seeing how the white and the blue are touching I feel that it should be the same way on the arm and hem stripes. Nicely executed though!

University of Missouri concepts (by Chris Z.)

Currently the school wears Penguins Edge jerseys. Chris has made a definite upgrade with these classically striped sweaters. It's somewhat difficult to find images of the hockey team. When I did, it looked as though they play at a community centre rink. Both are good example of why I think Kansas City shouldn't get a NHL team.

Detroit Red Wings concept (by Kris L.)

Here's a vintage white Red Wings 3rd jersey option from Chris. I like it except I think the shoulder patches are too close to the collar. I think to add a little more Red Wings style to it the NOB could be arched and the captain's letters could appear on the other side of the chest.

New York Rangers concept (by MasonII)

Mason makes an interesting concept here by using both shades of blue that the Rangers employ in their colour scheme. I actually like this a lot. I don't think it's any better than what they wear now (that would be difficult), but I do think these are really good. Well executed also! I think the red could be darker and not so vibrant.

Dave is the first to use the new AHL 3rd Jersey template to create this outdoor game sweater for the B-Sens. I think it's spot on and we would probably see something like this if the Sens played in another outdoor game. Really great work Dave.

I love these. The blue that Brian has used is great. The silver trim on the arm stripes and the V is the perfect touch. I know we've seen Johnny Canuck not work as a primary crest on a jersey before, but that was a practice sweater. Until we see it on a game sweater, complete with proper striping, I'm not willing to dismiss his chances of being a primary logo. COTW nomination from me!

It's Official: Winter Classic at the Big House

We got the official announcement today that the Leafs will travel to the Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan to play the Red Wings in the 2013 Winter Classic! We also got a look at the Hockeytown Winter Festival logo and possibly the Winter Classic wordmark. I can tell you that here in Toronto the city is buzzing. People are so jacked to get tickets that the site to sign up for ticket info has crashed! From sports talk radio callers, it sounds like Leafs fans are going to try to invade Michigan and take this thing over. Wings fans better up their game, haha!

All of the events that I mentioned yesterday were also confirmed today and will take place at Comerica Park. I was also thinking about PuckDrawn's annual Grand Rapids Griffins jersey design competition, where the winner actually has their jersey made and the Griffins wear it for their December 31st game. Well, for the 2012-13 season, that game is scheduled for the AHL Outdoor Classic at Comerica against the Marlies. I wonder if that comp will still happen?

Montreal Canadiens concept (by Rylen)

Rylen's first contribution to HJC is a Rocket Richard tribute sweater. I like the idea, but this could use some more white. Also, the red in the logo should be the same shade as what is used on the jersey. I also don't think the white hem fits in too well. It's a good start though Rylen, I look forward to hopefully seeing more in the future.

Augsburg Panthers DEL concept (by Martin)

This is a German league team. Their current sweater actually look like vintage Red Wings sweaters. They have a white, red and green versions. For this concept, I would go with less green and something not so bright. Also, the numbers on the back appear to be small.

Chicago Blackhawks concept (by Deferoiler)

I`m not liking this one too much. First, the crest uses true white while the rest of the concept uses vintage white. There are also no shoulder patches or TV numbers, at least. I also think the red hemline looks out of place. Also, the black background really does not work with a jersey that also uses black.

Minnesota Wild concepts (by Thomas)

I think the white jersey needs some green in the hem with the red. The green jersey has some potential. I think the hem stripes could be placed further down on the sweater. Also, mixing some green in there would help. Finally, I think the numbers need and outline.

Edmonton Oilers concepts (by Stephen T.)

This is a neat idea. These are based on the WHA orange Alberta Oilers sweaters, but Stephen has used the bronze from the 3rd jersey. I really like the white version and I think it would be a great option as a white 3rd jersey. The concept itself is pretty well executed too.

Washington Capitals concepts (by Chris Z.)

Chris uses the 90`s logo in a way that I think looks better, with red and blue. However, I think different shades of red and blue would work better. While this is a decent concept, I think it could add more life if perhaps the current red and blue were used.

Calgary Flames concepts (by Kyle C.)

I like these concepts for the most part. I might be in the minority when I say that I like the flags as shoulder patches for the Flames. Two things I`d change on this concept and they are both on the red jersey. First, I find the yellow yokes too distracting. Next, I would make the collar yellow instead of white.

Hamilton Bulldogs concept (by HJC)

My recent visit to Hamilton gave me a closer look at the Bulldogs' sweaters and I thought that they could do a better job getting away from a Reebok cookie cutter looking sweater and play more off of the history of their parent club. I tried to keep some of the elements Bulldogs fans are used to while doing a better job tying into the Canadiens.

Winter Classic Announcement Coming

It's funny that for the 2012 Winter Classic the official confirmation of the game didn't come until September or so. Now it appears that tomorrow we will get official confirmation of the 2013 game between the Wings and Leafs at Michigan Stadium! We are actually going to get two press conferences tomorrow. The first will be at 10:30am EST at Comerica Park where, according to TSN's Bob Mckenzie, the following events will be announced:

- Week long "Hockeytown Fan Fest"
- Four NCAA games held at ballpark
- AHL Outdoor Classic Griffins vs Marlies
- Two OHL games, Plymouth vs London & Saginaw vs Windsor
- An assortment of youth and high school games
- NHL Winter Classic Alumni game Wings vs Leafs

The second presser will be at 1:15pm EST at Michigan Stadium where the 2013 NHL Winter Classic will be announced between the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs. It's not likely, but maybe we might get a logo release!

You can bet I will be doing everything I can to try and get tickets when they go on sale, which in past Classics has been September.

Speaking of the Winter Classic, I decided to draw up a generic logo which can be used by ANYONE who wants it. Feel free to take this and mash it up or re-colour it. I just thought this might be useful for some people.

I don't think a re-coloured Ducks 3rd jersey works too well for the Jets. Also, the logo and player number are pixelated. The shade of blue used for the NOB doesn't match the rest of the jersey.

I really like everything about these jerseys except for the tank logo! If that English script B logo was used on all of these, they would be awesome.

Toronto Maple Leafs concepts (by Chris Z.)

I'm not a fan of the alternate jersey with the leafs in the stripes. The shoulder patch on the 1967 jerseys is pretty good though. Execution is also fairly good except it looks like a different shades of blue used on the jerseys and logo.

Ottawa Senators concepts (by Dave C.)

Dave has Edge-ified the original Sens sweaters, but he's used the rarely seen updated side profile logo. Also, the retro O shoulder patch has been added. I would use a white outline on that shoulder patch for the black jersey. Finally, if you're trying to be exact, the black sleeves on the white jersey stop at the higher red arm stripe.

Winter Classic concepts (by Torin)

Torin would like to see the Habs take on the Sabres in a Winter Classic. The Habs jersey we have seen before here on HJC. As for the Buffalo sweater, I would reverse the yellow and white and you got a winner.

Edmonton Oilers concepts (by Dan C.)

Icethetics tell us yesterday that the Oilers are getting rid of their navy 3rd jersey, thank goodness. I do however like the route that Dan is going here by bronzing the orange and continuing the arm stripes ALL THE WAY across the arm. I could really dig this as a 3rd Oilers jersey. Nothing wrong with this concept at all. Actually, it's really well executed. It just doesn't evoke any reaction from me. I don't hate it, I don't love it. Maybe a reversal of the teal and black may change my mind?

Carolina Hurricanes concepts (by Avi)

I think the Canes are due for a uniform adjustment and I am all in favour of what Avi has done here! The changes aren't drastic, but they are enough for people to take notice. I think the change to black pants and gloves makes the team look angrier.

This one almost looks like Lokomotiv would take a page out of the Habs jersey book, which isn't a bad idea. Hey, it's a nice looking sweater. I wonder if Lokomotiv will wear new sweaters when they come back to the KHL next season. Sort of like a fresh start?

As I post this I realize that one logo has been properly credited, while the other two have not. Writing "(C) NHL Tournament of Logos" is incorrect credit. Seriously, it just took me 10 seconds with a Google image search to find out that GhettoFarmBoy created that shoulder patch and wordmark.

Chris brings back the pre-Edge sweaters (Edge-ified, or course) and keeps the current 3rd jersey. This is a good Blues set, but I would also be good for a complete overhaul of the Blues' jerseys.

Alaska Aces concept (by Thallos)

I've never been a fan of this Reebok striping pattern. If the sleeves stayed the same, but hem stripes were added, similar to what is used on the socks, then I could like this. I do like the simplicity of the pants with the one blue stripe. As always, Thallos' concepts are as clean as a whistle.

I prefer this as the Wild's 3rd jersey than a Wings 3rd jersey. In fact, I'm all for the Wings being stubborn and not having a 3rd jersey. You stay classy Detroit...no wait, Red Wings! In no way is Detroit classy (sorry Detroit).

Winter Classic concepts (by MasonII)

I really like both of these fauxback sweaters. A couple of the changes I would make; get rid of the outline on the Wings' numbers and move the Leafs' TV numbers up onto the shoulders. I love the Leafs patch on the arm stripe, but the TV numbers are awfully close to interfering with it and making the jersey look cluttered.

The updates to the Wings' sweater are great. For the Leafs, I would try to find a way to get that T on there somewhere. Perhaps the shoulders or in the arm stripes as we saw with MasonII's concept? I do nominate Torin's 2nd set of concepts for COTW though!

So, the star jersey pattern should go over top of the stitching. I do like this as an alternate option, but Reebok says that it's "impossible to make". They said the same thing about the Ottawa 67's barberpole sweaters.

Answer to the photo at the beginning of the post; Zack Smith's right shoulder patch is upside down. Apparently it has been all season. Go check out photos of Smith wearing the red jersey anytime this season. The shoulder patch should be upside down! If the Sens place these game worn sweaters on sale, you can bet that Smith's sweater will go for a lot. Thanks to Nevill for the info.

Ryan's 2013 NHL Winter Classic Package

Yesterday I posted this splash ad to promote this post.

This and/or variations of it would be used on TV and websites to promote the game. Here and the tickets are really the only places that the retro team wordmarks show up.

My original thought was there was no way Toronto would be in the game. I originally had plans to use Boston as the opposing team.

At first, I was not going to include any vintage white in the game, but as I went on the option of using vintage white with the Wings was too attractive.

I even started to create Winter Classic sweaters for the Bruins. (This is un-finished)

Here is the event logo and some of its applications.

I finally accepted the rumours and made Toronto the visiting team.

The sweaters I created are a vintage mash-up. The yokes and logo are 1930's inspired. The arm and hem stripes draw from the 1967 jerseys and the blue cuffs are taken from the 1950's white sweater, which later became an alternate for the Leafs in the late 90's and 2000's. The numbers and are a little wider which is the same style currently worn on the 3rd jersey (1967 replica). The captain's letters are also much wider to achieve a vintage look.

The host team, Detroit Red Wings.

I always say about the Wings, "don't mess with a good thing". I tried my best not to. I did go the vintage white route to help with the retro style. I also went with the vintage winged wheel logo. The location of the jersey stripes are actually based on the 1934-61 white jerseys as well as the 1983-84 red sweater. The player and TV numbers are the traditional Red Wings font. However, the NOB uses a standard block font that is not arched, again for the retro look. To sprinkle even more retro flavour, I made the players' gloves vintage brown and added collar laces to the sweater. Both jerseys contain the Winter Classic wordmark inside the collars.

Referee Jerseys

Even the referees should get into the retro act for the Winter Classic. The jersey construction is the same as current ref sweaters, but the vintage white colour is a replica of the 1930's and 40's sweaters. Referee numbers are in black rounded squares just as in real life. Obviously linesmen would wear the same thing minus the orange armbands.

Winter Classic Merchandise

Why does the NHL love the Classic so much? Because it makes a tonne of cash! A lot of that cash comes from merchandise sales. I made some merch to go along with my game. If this stuff were real I'd probably have to buy the ball cap and a blue polo shirt.

I'm really happy with how the player tees look! I also imagine the stands filled with people wearing the touque and hoodie!

Toronto Maple Leafs Merchandise

The Leafs have the same items as the Wings. I was going to show the shirts yesterday as well and try and get some jersey speculation going, but the Leafs' player tee doesn't really drop any hints at what the sweater would look like.

Ice

This would be the design on the ice surface. The sponsors are official NHL sponsors and taken from the 2012 game. They have been fairly consistent through the first 5 Classics. Below is a closer look at centre ice.

This is what Michigan Stadium looked like for The Big Chill at the Big House in December of 2010.

Stadium Layout

Below is the layout for the Winter Classic at the Big House. The NHL usually colours the field white for a snow effect. The small blue squares are the speakers that get set up around the rink. There is only one tunnel for a players entrance (as far as I can see), so both teams come out the same tunnel then split off, around the broadcast booths, and onto the ice in their own ends. The endzones have the team's city painted on in the same font that MICHIGAN is written underneath.

Jersey Collection (Avi)

Avi has done something that I am seriously considering doing as well and that is go with "Authentic" jerseys only for his collection. I really like the 2004 All Star Game sweater he has. As well, the main piece has got to be the game used #19 Ethan Moreau sweater. The rec league jerseys are cool as well.

Buffalo Sabres concept (by Brian B.)

A white version of the old 3rd jersey. I might be more into this, but this seems really half assed. No TV numbers, no back view. We all know you can do better Brian.

Cleveland Barons concepts (by Chris Z.)

Chris wants to move the Blue Jackets within Ohio, over to Cleveland. Almost every hockey team that Cleveland gets, they name them the Barons. The home and road are Edge-ifications, but I do like that retro alternate. I think it might sell really well if the Barons came back.

Chilliwack Chiefs concepts (by Alan)

This is a team from the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League). Which is junior A hockey, just under the WHL. You can check out their current sweaters here. I do prefer a logo as a primary crest to a wordmark, but I like the striping on the current jerseys better.

Memorial Crusaders concepts (by Brady)

These are concepts for Brady's high school team. The red sweater in the top right is what they actually wear now. I like the one with the stars on the bottom right the best. Unfortunately for schools it's cheaper for them to just slap their logo on a pre-existing jersey. It would be really great if they could spend some money and let people who wear the jersey, like Brady, design it.

Anaheim Ducks concepts (by Dave C.)

I like these as they are classic and straight forward. I'm not in favour of bringing back the old logo as a primary logo though. I think it's had its time, but it's nice as a shoulder patch on the current 3rd jersey. Speaking of shoulder patches, I don't think having them orange is a great idea here. I think keeping them gold with a thick black then white outline would look better.

I think these fit the "heritage" idea of the Classic well. I really like the TV numbers on the shoulders and the vintage brown pants that he has the Leafs wearing. My only real issue is that I think the Leafs logo should be bigger. Either way, a COTW nomination from me!

Washington Capitals concepts (by Adam)

For Adam`s 1st contribution to HJC he has updated the original Capitals`sweater. Even though this has been done many times before, I do have to note the good job on the execution of the concept.

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Stephen T.)

Stephen has combined the 80`s arm striping with the pre-Edge hem design. I would be okay if the design on the pants was only the downward triangle, but having the two triangles meet up doesn't work for me. Neither does the sock design. The logo is very pixelated, but I do appreciate the effort that has gone into outlining it in Paint. The old Caps font doesn't fit this jersey in my opinion and where are the TV numbers?!?

Ottawa Senators concept (by Josh)

Josh has placed the original logo on the old alternate, but it appears to be too small. He's also used the shoulder patches from the current alternate. Those don't work for me as they are using vintage white while the rest of the jersey uses true white. The captain's C is a decent idea, but why does it use a different shade of gold than the rest of the jersey?

Nashville Predators concepts (by Justin)

Justin submitted the 3rd jersey for the competition and now he has completed his set. He has added teeth to one of Penn State's logos. It looks cool, but it's hard to ignore that it's a Penn State logo. I really like the shoulder patch created for the 3rd jersey and that he's only used it on the 3rd jersey.

Washington Capitals concept (by Mason H.)

I always liked Washington's blue jersey in the 90's. This would have been really cool, except I don't think I like the black hem under the stripes. I would have preferred that blue. I also don't think that the "weagle" logo looks good in these colours. Either no shoulder patch or something different would be better. Those issues aren't deal breakers though as overall I do like this concept.

Carolina Hurricanes concept (by B&I Design)

I really like the logo created for this concept! However, I find that a standard block font doesn't go well with it. Perhaps something that appears to have more "movement" would be better? I do like the simplified Hurricanes sweater, but where is the Reebok logo on the back? Nice work overall though. COTW nomination from me.

New York Islanders concepts (by Brandon C.)

We've seen the top two jerseys done a few times before. I think the consensus is that it's the best way to utilize the "fishsticks" logo. The re-colouring of a Bruins jersey for the alternate, I don't like here. I don't like those big orange shoulder yokes. I also think that the lighthouse logo is built to be a shoulder patch and not a primary crest.

Colland International Ice Hockey Tournament concept (by WinnipegJets96)

This is a tournament idea by Jets96 and he has also included hypothetical results. Also included are gold, silver, and bronze medals as well as a championship trophy. Tickets and the tournament logo are also included. I remember simulating these types of tournaments (involving all sorts of teams) on the NHL video games. Jets96 has also included the sweaters that each team will wear. Note how each team only has one.

Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by Bryan S.)

This is Bryan's idea for what the Leafs should wear for the 2013 Winter Classic, if they rumours are true. As I've said before, I like the T in the old style leaf logo. I also like the "heritage" feel of this jersey, but the vintage white is looking more yellow than white. Also, at the bottom of the front of the jersey, I know the back hem does hang lower, but it should appear blue, not vintage white.

Dallas Stars logo (by Brian B.)

With these adjustments Brian is trying to add some depth to the logo. I think he's done that, but I don't know if the changes are drastic enough to be noticed on a sweater from a distance or to an untrained eye that has already purchased the old logo. That person may not think to look for any differences.

Winnipeg Jets concepts (by B&I Design)

I really like the logo! Actually, I love the logo, well done! It looks great on the vintage jerseys as well. The blue doesn't look so blue to me though. It seems more on the purple side.

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Brandon C.)

Nice work here by Brandon. I like the double outline around the yoke, that's something we really haven't seen too much with the Edge jerseys. In my opinion, switching the red and the white on the collar would look better. Well executed concept though Brandon.

Team USA concept (by Scott)

When looking at the Rangers' Winter Classic sweater, Scott saw a better fit for Team USA. I'd have to agree with him. He's done a really nice job translating the jersey to the Nike Swift cut. Not having a NOB adds to the vintage look I just don't know if the IIHF has a rule about that. My other concern would be about the hem stripes as they curve with the hem on the back, but they are straight on the front. Either way, good call by Scott and a COTW nomination from me!

The Stretch Drive Begins

I can't believe we are already this far into the season, but tonight the stretch drive begins. Those lower seeded teams will have to fight to keep their playoff positioning and the teams on the outside will have to fight even harder to get in. Boston Bruins concepts (by Cody)

Cody has used the pre-Edge numbers on these Edge concepts along with removing the collar laces and the shoulder patches in favour of retro logos. He has also added a yellow 3rdm which I like. Nice choice on the shoulder patches on that one. I think the changes on the home and road are not for the better. Also, the TV numbers are too big and too far apart. They would appear as (7 3), but they should appear as (73). Click the "TUTORIALS" link on the side of the page for the TV numbers tutorial.

Elmira Jackals concepts (by Elias)

I like the idea of home and road alternates. The jerseys are decent, but again there are vertical stitching issues. I won't mention that again until I post a tutorial. I think the player numbers on the back are too spaced out and need an outline or some more character. Also, the NHL logo shouldn't be in the collar insert, as this is an ECHL team.

I like where this jersey could go, but at times the yellow gets lost in the vintage white. I think if a small amount of brown trim appeared between each colour then this would be a winner. I'd also say here that the player numbers appear too spaced apart.

Now this looks vintage.I think it's well executed and a nice match to the old Ramblers' sweater, but the style is probably more appropriate for an AHL team's specialty jersey, in my opinion. Still a good concept though.

Calgary Flames concepts (by Brendan A.)

I really love the home and road jerseys here. I think the Flames should do what the Sabres did and go "retro inspired" not full on retro. These jersey do just that. My only note would be to have the black in the stripes be thicker and connect the outside and inside stripes together, instead of just being a trim. I'm going to give this a COTW nomination.

Florida Panthers concept (by Brandon C.)

Pretty straight forward design, but I think it could work as a Panthers alternate. I like the Brandon used that circle logo for this concept. Pretty well executed too.

Hamilton concepts (by Matt M.)

These are great looking vintage concepts. I really like the green numbers on the green sweater, as it really helps with the vintage look. Sorry Matt, I can't remember if you named this team or not, or if there was a back story with it.

Winter Classic concepts (by Avi)

I think the Detroit concept is perfect, I am actually working on something very similar myself. The Leafs concept is good too. It might have been intentional for Avi to use the '67 leaf as the shoulder patch, but if this jersey is trying to replicate that of the 70's and 80's, then that shoulder patch should just be the silhouette of the current leaf. Solid concepts regardless though Avi.

Buffalo Sabres concept (by Ross)

We've probably all seen the 90's logo turned blue and yellow, but not like this before. I like how Ross has made the Buffalo peer out from behind the sabres. I also really like how the crossed sabres are placed below the TV numbers, nice touch. I'm not a fan of the white arm and hem stripes though. Same goes for the white in the collar.

I know Chris is trying to combine eras, but I don't think the gold works when used with the black and silver. I think the home and road concepts would look good if the logo did not have the gold trim. Also, where have the Reebok logos on the back gone?

Dallas Stars concepts (by B&I Design)

We get North Stars inspired sweaters for the Dallas Stars concepts. I like the D logo with the 6 stars (6 players on the ice), but I think it might be better suited as a secondary logo. In fact, I think it would be great as a shoulder patch or helmet or pants logo. I'm going to stop mentioning the vertical stitching ending at the hem stripes. Am I the only one who cares about that?

Another North Stars inspired concept. I like the stars in the arm stripes, but I think the primary logo looks a little small on this jersey. I'd also leave the coloured namebar to the Flyers. In my opinion, it's their thing so let them have it.

Hartford Whalers concept (by Tex)

This is a vintage inspired concept Tex says. One indicator is the over sized TV numbers. If this truly were "vintage inspired" I would make the blue and grey stripes thicker. I'd also not try to draw attention to the Reebok collar insert by colouring it a different colour than the jersey itself. I like the direction of this, but a few tweaks could make it better.

The concept is nearly perfectly executed, except for the small traces of red left on the player model's neck. I'm not against the vegas gold or a vegas gold sweater, but this one just doesn't seem to work for me. It's not a bad concept, but I can't seem to find anything that I really like about it.

Brendan really tried to combine eras here. Obviously it's the sweaters of the 80's, but what appears to be black is actually "Midnight Blue" and what appears to be white is actually "Ice Blue". I like the creativity with the colours and I think it would be a great idea for a 3rd jersey.

Quebec Nordiques concepts (by Matt M.)

If the Nordiques came back, these would be good jerseys. I like how Matt has used the white version of the igloo logo on the blue jersey. I also think the number font is a perfect choice! It's simple striping, but for some reason I really think the cuffs add some life to this jersey. I REALLY like this, so COTW nom from me!

I've always been a fan of Tom's work. At the start of 2011 he was a frequent contributor and then he went dark for a few months. Over the last several weeks he has been sending in his fantastic works again. Today I will feature his Winter Classic program that has been in the works for a couple of months. Words in italics are Tom's own. Before I even start, I'll let you know that I'm giving this a COTW nomination!

Winter Classic mark

Tom decides to go against the rumours and places the game in Denver. I really like that he worked the puck swoosh into the logo and the mountains looks great up top. My only small concern is that the wood panel which holds the wordmark might be a touch too bare. Maybe it could be shorter? Still a really nicely put together logo and believable that it could be an actual Classic logo.

Stadium

Tom has the event at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. It would no doubt be the biggest Winter Classic ever as the stadium holds over 75,000 fans (thanks Wikipedia).

Game Program

This could be great as the "official souvenir game program". Can't you picture yourself going to Denver and over paying for this thing?

Promo spread

Something like this would appear on NHL.com or on NBC's website to promote the game. The "program" above could be used in the same manner.

Colorado Avalanche jersey concept

Colorado is almost 100% inspired from the Nordiques 1972 -73 uniform. I decided to do the old Rockies logo with a simple edit on the mountain for an A. I made sure to keep the yellow in the Rockies logo to make it seem like more of a Rockies inspired jersey, even though it is mainly Nordiques inspired.

I like that Tom took the yokes past the typical Reebok Edge yoke stitching. Very retro. I do have to note home the vertical stitching shouldn't go over top of the hem stripes. I do love this jersey, it's my favourite of the two.

St. Louis Blues jersey concept

As for the Blues concept, I was tempted to use the red but stayed away. I used the old school wordmark with a similar striping pattern from that era. For the secondary I used the old sharp edged logo with the writing inside.

I personally don't think the vintage white collar works, but I really like the arm striping. At first I thought just the wordmark looked too plain, but after seeing it on the player model it really helps with that vintage look.

The full body rendering is where most of the work was. I have been in the process of cleaning up the template you provide on your site for quite some time now. In the end I'm glad with how it turned out.

For the numbers and names on each jersey, they are both accurate to the numbers and names used on their current jerseys with slight colour changes of course.

Credits

I added a credits page out of respect to the Logo's and photo's I've used. I don't want to be stepping on any toes. I would have added it to every page but decided there was too much information, so i decided to create a separate page for credits.

COTY Final Begins!

Some AHL 3rd and specialty sweaters aren't made by Reebok, they are made by a company in Quebec called SP Apparel. In fact, SP used to be the jersey manufacturer for the AHL prior to the Reebok Edge system. Even though SP makes some of those 3rd and specialty sweaters, they still are required to place Reebok tags on their AHL sweaters to make them appear as if Reebok made them. As they do tend to look a little different, I have made a new template for those sweaters. This can now be found on the TEMPLATES page, along with a lot of other goodies (if you haven't been there yet).

Houston Aeros concepts (by Russ)

Russ brings back the Aeros to the WHA. I like the wordmark as I think it suits the WHA Aeros better. When I see that jet logo I instantly associate it with the Aeros of the IHL/AHL. I like the small arm stripe design that has been used. I think a matching yoke on the blue concept would be good. Not a reverse colour, an exact copy. Good execution here Russ.

Columbus Blue Jackets concept (by Mason H.)

This is Mason's "fix" to the Jackets' sweater. In my opinion, it's a downgrade. I like the idea of combining the eras, but I think the current shoulder patch is better than the cannon logo. I also think that the red is too bright on this concept. I would like to see a jersey that uses the arm and hem stripes here, but not the blue sleeves. Again, good execution.

Columbus Blue Jackets concepts (by Brendan A.)

Brendan uses the current 3rd jersey as the base of a new home and road set. Wow, look how much better true white looks on this jersey and the white version looks great as well. I also prefer the traditional block lettering to the "square" numbers that are currently used. The alternate concept here just doesn't do it for me. That old logo doesn't look good in white in my opinion.

Boston Bruins concept (by Justin)

Justin has made some simple alterations to the Winter Classic jersey, intending to make it an alternate. Those changes include removing the vintage white and the collar laces. He's also tweaked the yokes and placed numbers on the front. Execution note, the hem stripes on the back nearly interact with the vertical stitching properly, but on the front they are intercepted by the stitching. Take a look at Brendan's Jackets jerseys to see how that should be.

Dallas Stars concepts (by Steven G.)

These concepts, based on late 70's North Stars sweaters, really use the Edge cut well. How could you complain if Dallas were to wear either of these sweaters? Nice work Steven.

Toronto Maple Toros concept (by Ross)

This isn't one of my favourite mash-ups by Ross, but obviously it's still well done. I prefer the shoulder patch to the logo mash-up itself. On a jersey execution note, the TV numbers are too close to the yokes, they should be halfway between the arm stripes and the yokes. I guess on Ross' concepts it's more about the logos than the jerseys.

Ross also sent this along. It's a recap of all the logo mash-ups he's sent in over the last couple of months. I'd have to say that my favourite is either the Sharks/Seals or the Wild/North Stars mash-up. Thanks for sending all of those in Ross!

Montreal Canadiens concept (by Stéphane)

I wish Montreal would wear this as a 3rd jersey again. I think it looks great on the Edge cut and I love how Stéphane has provided us with a mock-up photo. The vintage striping on the pants is a perfect addition. COTW nomination from me!

St. Louis Blues concepts (by Fredrik)

I think the Blues may be a leading contender for new uniforms. Fredrik has done a great job here providing us with vintage inspired concepts. I really like the road concept here. I like how the two shades of blue look together and how the darker blue is more prominent than what it actually is now.

I can't let today go by without wishing Wayne Gretzky a happy birthday. I also used today to visit his website and was reminded of possibly one of the coolest hockey experiences ever. Regular contributor and Columbus Blue Jackets fan Avi, wanted me to get this word out. There will be a protest by fans outside of the arena on Saturday at 2pm. Fans attending are unhappy with how ownership has been running the team, especially since the jobs of Club President Mike Priest and GM Scott Howson were labeled "safe" during a league worst 13-30-6 record at the All-Star break. How great would it be to be able to sell affordable HJC hockey jerseys? I'm always on the lookout. I don't know if it would have as many stripes as this one, but this is on the right track. I wouldn't include the NHL logos though, but it would be nice to have it made by Reebok.

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Sam O.)

I like the yoke and hem stripes a lot. I wish the arm stripes matched though. Maybe even do away with the arm stripes and go with cuffs that use the striping pattern? Overall, still a good concept.

Quebec Nordiques concepts (by Chris Z.)

I would think if the Nordiques were to still be around and use this logo, that this would be close to what they may look like. I actually like the road white jersey the best. I also think that the retro Nordiques sweater is made for the Edge cut jersey! My one note would be that the logo looks squished on the jersey.

Winter Classic concepts (by Brendan A.)

Buffalo has been the only home team in a Classic to wear white. Brendan's concepts would make Detroit the second. First, the vertical stitching needs fixing as it should not appear over top of the jersey stripes. I like how Brendan has gone with no NOB. I think that goes great with the heritage theme of the Classic. I just think NBC wouldn't allow it, as they do try to use the game to bring in new fans.

Winter Classic concepts (by Justin)

This would be a great looking game! I wonder if Toronto would be worried about a simple reverse of their 3rd jersey selling well. I like both of these concepts, but I think the "DETROIT" should be more bold. Also, the stripes are over top of the stitching on the Wings sweater, but why not on the Leafs sweater?

This is the only concept in Ross' mash-up series that I haven't liked. The arm stripes are okay, but the rest of the sweater is a little boring. The logo mash-up, while it is well executed, just seems forced. All I see is the horse head on a tip of the Devils' logo.

Florida Panthers concepts (by Fredrik)

I think these are great Panthers jerseys! The red sweater looks complete and not just thrown together, as the current one looks now. The white jersey looks clean and awesome. Perhaps something around the hem would improve this a touch, but that may also ruin it. Great stuff here either way and a COTW nomination from me!

Michigan Stags concepts (by Russ)

Russ creates concepts for this old WHA team using the logo of the Fairfield Stags of the NCAA. I think that the actual Stag's WHA logo was pretty creative and might still hold up in today's world. I like the red sweater, a nice classic yet contemporary design. The white version I would also like if the top of the arm was white and not red. Finally, if you erase the NHL shield in the collar insert (nice attention to detail), why not go all the way and erase the one in the jersey tag as well?

Trail Smoke Eaters concept (by Jeremy T.)

Jeremy has Edge-ified an old Smoke Eaters sweater, nice work. I think that the Smoke Eaters logo is another one that has really stood the test of time. It has actually been tidied up a bit and is now being used by the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League) Junior A club.

Nashville Predators concept (by Josh)

This could be a cool 3rd sweater for the Preds. I have two concerns though. One being that the blue numbers might not be distinguishable enough on the blue sweater. The second being the checkerboard stripes that get cut off on the arms by the white stripe. Execution note, the shoulder patch is upside down. Other than that, there are some good ideas here. UPDATE: Apparently Josh updated his concept and I posted the old one. This is why it's so important not to rush your concepts into me and make sure you send me the FINAL version! Either way, this is now the updated version and the shoulder patch on the right arm (on the front) and left arm (on the back) are backwards. That still shows a rushed job.

I really like this look. I like the stars on the yokes and the classic striping, which I think is perfect for a Team USA uniform.

Carolina Hurricanes concept (by Mazz)

Mazz intends this as a possible Winter Classic concept, if the Canes were to ever take part. I think it's headed in the right direction, but it lacks effort without any TV numbers or shoulder patches. I also think it would look better if the blue and grey switched places on the hem stripes.

Carolina Hurriwhales concept (by Ross)

I love it! The logo mash-up is pretty much perfect. How can I even attempt to critique this? I'd say it's perfect. COTW nomination from me!

Minnesota Wild concepts (by Brian B.)

Brian bases this new set on the current 3rd sweater. I like how he's kept it traditional, but also uses the modern numbers from the road sweater. I also like how he's used both vintage and true white on the road jersey. I think the Wild need a re-design. Yes, the have 3 great sweaters right now, but none of them connect to the others except with logos.

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Spirit104)

I would love this concept, but that Reebok piping just breaks my heart. I like the stripes along with the stripe on the pants, but then that piping spoils it like ketchup on mashed potatoes. The concept is well executed though.

Chicago Blackhawks concept (by Tex)

Instead of matching the arm stripes to the hem stripes, as most concepts seem to typically do, Tex has matched the hem stripes to the arm stripes. He's also made those stripes thicker and did a cool re-colour of the shoulder patch, which is my favourite part of this concept. My only note would be to make the stripes on the pants thicker, to match the jersey and socks.

Vancouver Canucks concepts (by Fredrik)

We've seen the blue jersey before, as it's the current 3rd sweater of the Canucks. The road white version here is pretty good. I like how Fredrik has made the blue cuff smaller than what it is on the current roads. Having the thicker stripe blue instead of green is also a nice way to tie the two jerseys together.

Ohio Blue Crusaders concept (by Ross)

While the jersey isn't my favourite, except for the yoke outline stripes, the update of the Crusaders logo is tremendous! Then melting it with the Blue Jackets logo completes it really well. I'd like to see just a Crusaders concept using the updated pieces of the logo here.

I got some good ideas from you guys yesterday as to what contest we should do next. Ideas that were mentioned were Panthers 3rd Jersey Comp (mine), Create-a-team, and an All-Star Game ReDesign. I like all of those, but I would be worried about doing "create-a-team" because most people don't draw logos and I don't want a contest where other team's logos are being placed on jerseys to create a new team. So, I'm listening for even more ideas and the one that gets the best response will be the next competition!

Quebec Nordiques concepts (by Martin)

Martin has moved the Coyotes to Quebec...and brought their logo with them? He's "updated" the unused logo from the 90's, but Coyotes aren't typically associated with the north. That's why a husky was used on that logo. I do like the Winter Classic jersey, on the far right, but a black patch on a dark blue jersey is near impossible to see.

Florida Panthers concepts (by Torin)

I really like the road white jersey and the alt is okay. The home actually isn't too bad either, but I think it needs more yellow. The yellow in the colour scheme is what makes it say Florida, to me anyways.

Edmonton Oilers concept (by Josh)

Josh outlines the stripes on the current home sweater with the red from the 3rd jersey. In my opinion, it makes the orange look too "firey". Perhaps if the yokes got the same treatment and the blue was a little more in the powder blue range I'd like this. Execution notes, the vertical stitching needs to end at the hem stripes and where are the TV numbers?!?!

Edmonton Oilers concept (by Chris Z.)

Chris went with thick orange arm stripes and collar laces. I actually kind of like just the oil drop as a logo. I think this could be great as a 3rd jersey, if the Oilers' primary logo was a shoulder patch. I also think that the player number should get just a thick white outline like the TV numbers.

Anaheim Ducks concepts (by Cody)

If it weren't for two items, this concept would be really well executed. The TV numbers seem way too big and the shoulder patches are uneven distances from the collar. Usually I wouldn't notice that, but it's pretty evident here. I like the current 3rd jersey in the old colours though. I wonder how Ducks fans would feel about Wild Wing on their sweaters again?

Anaheim Ducks concept (by Spirit104)

Spirit has removed the yoke outline and placed the primary wordmark logo on the alternate sweater. Sorry Spirit, but I think you made these jerseys worse. In my opinion, orange numbers and NOB would add more life to this concept. Execution note, there are un-coloured pixels at the tip of the collar!

Chicago Blackhawks concept (by D3troit1388)

This is a decent concept. It seems like this is something the Hawks might have done in the 90's, with the simple red, black, and white colour scheme. Execution note, the red and black used on the sweater is not the same shades as what is used in the logo. Something as simple as that is the difference between a "decent" concept and a really "solid" concept.

Philadelphia Flyers concept (by MasonII)

Mason uses the Ramblers inspired logo that I drew up as a primary crest here. I didn't think it would look good on the front of the sweater, but I appear to have been wrong. I think for this concept the different coloured namebar doesn't work well, but I'm probably in the minority with that thought. Really well executed though Mason!

Columbus Blue Jackets concept (by Fredrik)

Wow, this looks really old school. I guess you could call it a fauxback. I have to mention the vertical stitching again and are those hem stripes intentionally that high? I love that classic stripe design on the pants! Overall a good look for the Jackets.

Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by Steven G.)

This is a cool vintage mash-up by Steven! The hem stripe is from the '67 sweater while the sleeves are obviously from the 1930's sweater. I also like when anyone places the Arena's "T" logo inside the 60's Leafs logo. I love the vintage collar as well! Great concept and that's why I give this a COTW nomination!

Ottawa Senators concepts (by Kevin)

My favourite part of these concepts is the wider numbers that Kevin has used on the home and road concepts. However, I think the shoulder yokes could do with an outline. If the laurel leaves on the arm stripes are supposed to be in one direction, then they would need to be reversed on one side of the jersey. The hem stripes are okay though.

Los Angeles Kings concepts (by Stephen T.)

I like the grey concept, but I think it needs shoulder patches or just something a little more. It's a touch too plain for me. I'd like the black concept if the striping was the same as the grey.

Tampa Bay Lightning concept (by Tyler)

Tyler created this for the Lightning's 20th season, which will be next year. I like that he's put together a logo for the occasion, but it needs to be applied better to the jersey. Also, watch that re-colouring inside the collar as it has bled into the neck insert and the NHL shield.

Washington Capitals concept (by Josh)

A decent concept here from Josh with a classic striping design. The #8 TV number should appear cut in half, the same way we do should patches. Right now it reads that Ovechkin is #88. Also, your stitching has been cut off on the back where it says Reebok.

Altered striping on the home sweater with a new road sweater and two new 3rds here! I don't like the TV numbers going over top of the stripes on the home and roads. I do like the re-creation of the heritage jersey though. The 3rd jersey based on vintage striping looks good, but again the numbers go over the stripes.

I was never a fan of the red in the Blues' colour scheme and so obviously I like the bottom concept better. Nice work with "hiding" the arch in the jersey. I also like the blue collar and how the blue continues into the lace's stitching.

Joni keeps the current 3rd jersey and comes up with new home and road concepts. I really love the execution on these, but I don't like the coloured panels under the arms. I find that they become irrelevant when the jersey is on the players' backs.

As I've said before, I think the trumpet logo, as used here, would be perfect for a current Blues shoulder patch. I like this concept, but I think I'd like it even more if the arm stripes went over the sleeves, just like the current Jets sweaters.

Jets96 created these after the Solar Bears revealed their new updated logo. He's used the bright shades that are typically associated with Florida on his jerseys. I thought I didn't like these at first, but after a second look I have changed my mind. They have "Florida Hockey" written all over them.

The Texas Stars' new 3rd jersey seems to be somewhat of a hit with concept artist. Mason has taken that sweater and made it a jersey for the parent club. The stars on the sleeves are great as is the "Dallas" wordmark inside the collar. I personally would have left the Texas state flag in its regular colours, but I could see this working as well. COTW nomination from me.

Seattle Metropolitans concepts (by Justin)

I thought I would have seen these in PuckDrawn's Seattle Competition. The logo is pretty solid, but the shade of green is a bit too 90's neon for my tastes.

This weekend, as I have been Tweeting and mentioning, I enjoyed the AHL Outdoor Classic in Hamilton.
It was a really great time and something very special to see. I would strongly suggest to anyone to try and get to an outdoor game of any variety. For a reasonable price of course. You will get cold, so make sure you don't blow the rent and food money on tickets.

Yesterday I posted the fauxback jersey that the Bulldogs wore (disappointing not to see the Marlies wear something special), but I had a couple of stripes out of place, so here is the actual sweater.

This was kind of funny, but I have been working on a somewhat detailed Winter Classic presentation for a couple of weeks now. Then the other day on CCSLC I see a thread posted by user "drdougfresh", which used a very similar logo to what I was creating, just MUCH better. There was also a commenter in the thread who said they were working on a similar idea also. I just wanted to post this so that when I do post my stuff there won't be comments like "you copied this from CCSLC". My logo concept is on the left and "drdougfresh"'s is on the right.

Coyotes concepts (by Stéphane)

In the last post, I posted concepts by Yannick for his summer hockey team. Stéphane and Yannick exchanged concepts on that post and now Stéphane has come up with these nice looking updated concepts for the team.

St. Albert Sabres concepts (by Tyler C.)

Tyler has created these for the minor hockey team, the St. Albert Sabres. He shows us the current sweaters on the left and his new concepts on the right. I'm not a fan of the alternate, but I like the Predators inspired home and away. I just think to stay away from copying the predators, the traditional block numbers should be used.

Nashville Predators concepts (by Avi)

Avi entered the yellow concept into the 3rd Jersey Comp Part I and now he's added a road white to match. I like it, but I think the yellow and grey should switch places. The home makes them look like a yellow and blue team, but then the road makes them look like a blue and grey team.

Toledo Walleye concepts (by Brian D.)

Brian has created concepts here using on of my favourite minor league logos. I really think the alternate is perfect and the only change I would make to the other two jerseys is to remove the blue under the sleeves. Nice work here Brian. COTW nomination from me!

Saskatoon Blades concepts (by Scott M.)

Scott has left the home sweater relatively the same, he's switched the number font. He's then added a matching road jersey. I'll start by saying the execution is tremendous! However, these seem like Reebok "cookie cutter" sweaters. I've never been a fan of the Reebok stripings, so I think making a new set based on the current road sweaters would be better...to me at least.

Dallas Stars concept (by Ricky)

Ricky intended this for the 3rd Jersey Comp Part I, but went in a different direction. At first I saw this and thought despite the stripe across the chest being typical I still liked this jersey. The I realized I like it because it's a Stars green version of the Canadiens' sweater.

Dallas Stars concept (by Tyler)

This is a re-coloured Preds jersey that is BEGGING for shoulder patches and/or TV numbers. By now people should know that if you leave out either of those elements, people probably aren't going to like your concept(s). The only part about this that I do like is the striping on the pants.

Ottawa Senators concept (by Josh)

This is a rush job beyond rush jobs! This has been taken directly from Sportslogos.net, has had the "O" logo removed and it's been replaced with the former 3rd jersey wordmark. Seriously, don't insult me or the readers by sending this in!

Coyotes concept (by Yannick)

Yannick wants to have this concept come to life for his summer hockey league team. For anyone who is interested in having jerseys made/customized for their team check out the following sites. SP Apparel, Athletic Knit, Kobe Sportswear. Try out all of their jersey customizers as well.

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Martin)

As I've said before, I don't personally like the Jets in red. The concept does seem to be fairly well executed though. I just think the numbers and NOB need some more life to them and the blue hem under the hem stripes needs to go.

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Kyle C.)

I really like the wordmark on the arms and I think the straight lines and angles work great from the striping! The old Thrashers' 3rd jersey collar was also a great choice. Well executed and everything looks really good. COTW nomination from me!

Columbus Blue Jackets concepts (by Steven G.)

I really like what's happening on the arms on these concepts, but I think the hem stripes are sorely missed. Really well executed concepts, but that's always the case with Steven.

Buffalo Sabres concept (by Kevin)

I was never a fan of the Sabres being red and black although the re-coloured Ducks jersey does seem to fit that logo well. I think the logo on the pants is also way too big. Execution note, the player numbers would be stitched over top of the tie-down.

Buffalo Sabres concept (by Brian B.)

This is a cool version of this sweater. I really like the effort that Brian put into the numbers. I think the yellow stripes may get lost in the vintage white sweater. Perhaps making the jersey stripes thicker would help that?

Team Canada concept (by Scott M.)

Scott has fired Nike as manufacturer of Team Canada's sweater and hired Reebok. I like how Scott has taken a simple jersey and then just added a maple leaf, but it looks like something that's really unique! It's like he's scaled back the stripes because he knew the leaf was going to be so present. Execution note; the maple leaf should probably go over top of the jersey stitching, like your stripes do.

Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins concepts (by Ricky)

Clearly these are based on the 90's Penguins alternates, but they are too busy for my tastes. I think just sticking with the vertical arm stripes and the gradient bar across the middle would be best here.

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Martin)

I think you should go with EITHER a chest stripe or shoulder yoke for this one, not both. I like the Penguin without the triangle in the chest stripe. However, the player number on the back is too small and the NOB is too big. Also, the TV numbers look way too big and all of the equipment is pixelated. Finally, the Reebok logo on the back has random red pixels in it, as if it has not been re-coloured with the rest of the jersey.

Minnesota Wild concepts (by Evan L.)

The home red concept is the retro Devils sweater with the Wild logo. The road jersey is not well executed with its pixelated logo and the stitching that stops at random. The alternate sweater does have potential. I think the logo used should be moved to shoulder patch status and the bear head logo used as the primary.

Calgary Flames concept (by Tyler C.)

I feel like this is a fauxback...to the mid 90's! I really appreciate the new ideas here though. The concept is actually well executed except for the flames on the front left arm, which seem to be coming off of the jersey.

Anaheim Ducks concept (by Josh)

Josh has re-coloured the Ducks' alternate jersey into their old eggplant and jade look. I think that's actually not too bad of a look, for a 3rd jersey. The execution is nearly perfect except for the TV numbers. The 9 needs to be centred on the sleeve, thus only half of it would appear. Then, why does the left sleeve have a 0 on it?!?!?

Washington Capitals concepts (by MasonII)

The home and road concepts are pretty cool, however I would lose the black yoke and the road uni. I think the main event here is the alternate! Despite clearly borrowing the sleeves from Columbus, I think the look works really well with these colours!

Tampa Bay Lightning concept (by Kevin)

I love when people do this! Kevin has gone back to one of his original submissions and has applied everything he's learned in the last year or so to fix it up and change it to meet his original intentions. With so much pressure to return black to the colour scheme, I wonder if we will see some sort of vintage inspired 3rd jersey in the future?

New York Islanders concept (by Dave C.)

Originally this was going to be a sweater from the upcoming film, Goon, which looks terrible to me! Obviously, it became an Islanders concept. I like its direction except I think the hem stripes should match the stripes that get cut off on the arms. Also, the vertical stitching should end at the top of the hem stripes.

All Star Game concepts (by Alan)

Honestly, I think these are...good. I like the colours and the layout and the stars placed around the hem. I just think the shield with the TV numbers in it should be smaller. It seems rather distracting on a well put together jersey.

Dallas Stars concept (by Kyle C.)

Kyle couldn't decide which entry to submit for Part I of the 3rd Jersey Comp. He didn't go with this one. Luckily for him, there was a Part II, so he entered this concept. It was in the rotation so I HAD to post it (personal policy), but because it's currently in a contest I won't comment on it.

Anaheim Ducks concepts (by Stéphane)

My FAVOURITE part about these concepts is the use of both ash black and true black! I think that really works for the Ducks. I also really like the gold sleeves that stop at the arm stripes. I think that's a design that we've really not seen before in the NHL, but it looks great. My only remark against these concepts is the collar laces, which just don't seem to fit in my opinion. COTW nomination from me!
