BPoe.- Dallas Stars (Comic Sans Series)

Friend of the Show BPoe continues his Comic Sans Series today with an entry for my hometown Dallas Stars. Comic Sans aside, I appreciate the humor behind this series where we see just how silly many professional logos would look as a result from a simple font change. I think this goes to show just how important every detail is on a design. From a letter-based logo to the #OB and NOB on the back of a jersey concept, font choice can truly make or break any design. In all honestly, the font isn't what get's me here, but rather than thickness difference between the D and the points of the star. The D is sorely lacking in size when compared to the rest, really bringing down the look here. Beef it up and we've got a workable snippet of design satire here.

Overall Rating: 6.0/10
Not quite Thicc enough to get the job done.

BPoe.- Minnesota North Stars (Comic Sans Series)

From Dallas we head north to the Stars' predecessors. Same inspiration appreciation follows here and I think overall this concept is more well done. The committal to the comic sans style extends to the star where the points are rounded creating a cohesive look. One lesson this concept teaches us is that drop shadow really doesn't work on text with rounded corners. Keeping the drop shadow of the original was a great way to stay true to the original though and I commend you for that, no matter how off-balance and oblong it makes the logo look in the end

Overall Rating: 8.0/10
If you're gonna shoot your shot, stick to your guns. Bpoe does just that here.

Steven G.- 2019 Winter Classic

When it comes to life, we can only be certain about two things. No, not death and taxes, the Chicago Blackhawks and outdoor games. Fortunately Steven has provided a new look for the Black (and White) hawks that pulls a bit from history while separating itself well enough to remain unique. While I think breaking the chest stripe is a good move,I'd take a page out of the Panther's book and have it extend right up to the back rather than stopping at the side panels. Other than that it's a solid look, not convinced the extra striping at the hem is necessary and it borders on cluttering the look. The simple hem fill would've matched the solid yoke and gotten the job done on it's own. The Bruins look loses me. The cuff striping matches nothing else in the set and the large white stripes in the rest of the set doesn't mesh well with the yellow base. Taking the B out of the Roundel is a nice step and matching the #OB is a good move.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10
One of these things is not like the other and unfortunately the Bs set falls short of the bar set by the Hawks.

TC Moore.- 2019 Arizona Rattlers

TC takes us home with a crossover concept for the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. The primary is beautifully done with the same striping pattern on both sets and a black-focused look for each that carries over to the equipment. The scales in the numbers is a bit too much. Given the prominence of the pattern in the striping and logo, the inclusion in the numbers adds a touch just too much. This theme follows on the alternate where the hem pattern could likely be avoided given its prominence on the shoulders.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10
A look that would certainly rattle the competition. Top marks here.

That's all for today folks.

TC's Rattlers Concept takes home this week's COTW Nomination.

We'll see you all next week!
