I am writing this as I sit in O'Hare Airport in Chicago. I'm on my way to Moline to watch the Quad City Mallards wear the jersey that I designed, tonight.
After the game I will be presented with my own jersey and then the gamers will be auctioned off.

Come back to this post late Saturday night or Sunday morning to see some pictures and get the full story.

Friday: Movin' on West

Hockey news isn't as common as it was last week, but the playoff push is in full swing, with every team trying to find that one special player. For the Jets, it looks to be a rental player like Mike Santarelli, Daniel Winnik or a solid 3rd line defensive player. Trading someone like Pavelec for a solid rental appears to be a possible trade baiter.

As for the other Canadian teams, the Sens appear to be content without selling, the Leafs are going to BLOW UP! The Oilers should BLOW UP! As for the Canadiens, Canucks & Flames, pretty much the same as the Jets, but with varying needs! This is going to be a good post season for Canadian teams.

As for 'Murican teams, Colorado & Dallas are making charges, and could move into the 9th spot unless LA smartens up. Colorado has Jerome Iginla to trade, Dallas has...well...not too much, but needs defence! Unless there's a late season push then the Flyers could be selling, as will the Hurricanes, who NEED to get rid of the leech of a former good player in Alexander Semin. Who's to say that Jarmoir Jagr couldn't be on a cup run this year? Arizona isn't looking too good, but they don't have much to sell after trading Devin Dubnyk. Speaking of him, the Wild aren't fully out of things, partly thanks to solid goaltending on the part of Dubs.

Also, Milwaukee could be getting an NHL team with talks of a new arena and sports complex being built. That would be interesting, to see the Milwaukee Admirals be "promoted" in a sense, and play their former big brother in Nashville. I'd prefer if they took my Milwaukee Whitetails concept from about a year ago, but you win some, you lose some.

In the AHL, this year will mark the end of 5 East Coastish teams. Oklahoma City, Manchester, Adirondack, Worcester and Norfolk will all be relocating to California. The idea being to use existing ECHL West Coast teams, and swapping them with AHL East coast teams with West Coast affiliates.

My name predictions

Calgary Flames-Stockton Thunder-Adirondack ? (Maybe keep the Flames name)
Edmonton Oilers- Bakersfield Condors- ? (OKC probably won't get an ECHL team)
Los Angeles Kings-Ontario Reign-Manchester Monarchs (No doubt these teams keep their names)
Anaheim Ducks- San Diego Mariners- Norfolk Admirals (the Admirals would just be returning to their original league when they were Hampton Roads Admirals)
San Jose Sharks- California Golden Seals- Worcester? (Maybe Icecats, and how cool would a GS return be?)

What are your thoughts? Better or worse? Are you in one of these markets? Will this affect you?

On to the World Cup of Hockey entries for today (There are a lot):

Mike B.

John E.

David P.

Nick B.

Matt Mc.

Seriously, don't forget to vote for COTY! It's part of the most important vote of the year, which starts next week. Without your votes, that vote cannot happen! COTY also cannot happen without COTW votes, so don't forget those!

COTY Semi-Final votes (end Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Jan 18-24 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
World Cup entries (due February 6 @ 11:59pm Eastern)

On to the concepts, we have 5 today!

Winnipeg Jets Concept (By: Justin F.)

+ The 90's Winnipeg Jets jerseys are some of the best of ALL TIME, so seeing them make a return would be amazing
+ Good execution, aside from a couple points
+ The recoloured modern logo doesn't look half bad, and is one of the better versions I've seen

- The recoloured logo doesn't look as good as the "tide" Jets logo would look on the front of that jersey, it's more a case of "is this better than it is replacing", and I don't think so
- the TV numbers are too small and the NOB is too big
- The reebok logo on the gloves really bothers me, it shouldn't stand out like that

7/10- Hard to dislike a concept based on an almost near perfect jersey, but it could be better It's an idea worth trying again

Toronto HC MLS Crossover Concept (By: Daniel L.)

+ Toronto FC, despite being one of the worst MLS franchises, has one of the best jerseys, and both concepts do somewhat accurately portray what the team actually wears
+ The white jersey looks really sharp, especially what Daniel has done with the arms
+ Obviously the red jersey is a little be out there, but for what it's based on, I really dig it
+ Good execution

- The tv numbers on the white jersey look better with they were the dark grey from the logo rather than black
- Gray should make more of an appearance over black, since TFC has worn it since their inception

8/10- Not a fan of the team, but a solid crossover none the less

Ottawa Senators Concept (By: Wings98)

+ Obvious "side profile looks better than front facing senator" comment
+ The colours on the striping are very well balanced
+ Inclusion of gold is there, but not overwhelming
+ Good mix of old Sens and new Sens

- The numbers, helmet and NOB have a weird outline and blurriness
- TV numbers are too small
- Chest stripe should NEVER stop and go around the numbers
- The collar should have some black on it

6.5/10- Better execution would make this concept a real winner!

Mohawk Valley Prowlers UHL Concepts (By: Ryan C.)

+ Despite the contrast between the logo and the fauxback jersey, the two actually go really well together
+ The colours are done near perfectly
+ Black cuffs and yokes look really nice, and doesn't overwhelm the blue/white

- I won't talk about the template issue because Ryan made this prior to him saying he'd change, but the logo does go above the tie down, and the NOB on the blue jersey isn't straight
- The numbers would look a lot better if they would be all black without an outline and a bit smaller

7.5/10- Would have been a slick look for the UHL!

2015 All Star Game Concepts (By: Dylan A.)

+ Is it possible to make the neon and black look good, but Dylan does it, as have others
+ Those numbers though....
+ The logo with a little green and no chrome!
+ All the garbage from the actual jerseys are gone
+ Fantastic execution

- The pants look like a volume bar on a mid 2000's phone, not bad, but I would have done away with the middle part
- Arm cuffs would look better if it continued past the curve

9.5/10- COTW Nom from Me!

That's the post!

Don't forget to vote for COTW & COTY, and keep the World Cup of Hockey entires coming in!

Go Jets Go! Have an awesome weekend!

Thursday: And Then There Were Four

Hello and welcome to another Thursday post!

Four = The number of months (on the calendar at least) left in the NHL regular season. Now that the annual distraction event has come and gone, we can get focused on the 2nd half of the season. Speaking of the All-Star Game, how did everyone enjoy it? Personally, the game was extremely boring to watch, but the skills competition was pretty entertaining.

Four = Also the number of concepts left in the COTY race.  Yes, we're down to the semi-final for the 2014 COTY.  Your job this week is to vote in BOTH matchups to determine who will advance to the finals.  Send in your votes and help us determine which two concepts reigned supreme in 2014.

We also have a huge COTW vote going on this week, with 6 entries. And the World Cup of Hockey jersey phase has been extended by a week, so hopefully that means more awesome concepts coming in.

Alright, without further ado, let's get to today's concepts!

COTY Semi-Final votes (end Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Jan 18-24 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
World Cup entries (due February 6 @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Portland Timbers - Daniel L.

Yay: First up today is a soccer-hockey mashup of the Portland Timbers.  The jersey has more yellow than it's soccer counterpart, which makes sense because of the logo.  This concept is pretty solid all around, but the numbering and the sides of the jersey really stand out for me.

Nay:  I don't like how bust the arm striping is.  Going with either the vertical or horizontal stripes would be okay, but not both.  Personally I'd choose the vertical stripes (the yellow, green and white ones).  The logo appears a little big, and the collar on the green jersey should be a different colour.

Overall:  It's interesting, but still needs some work.  7.4/10

Carolina Hurricanes - Dylan N.

Yay:  Now that's what I call pizazz! Dylan's concept gives the Carolina Hurricanes a very interesting but flashy alternate jersey.  Utilizing black is a good choice, and the arm/hem design is really bold and exciting.  This wouldn't work for most teams, but it's perfect for the 'Canes.

Nay:  Everything in this concept is big and bold, but some of it is a little too big.  The logo, back number and the name (to a lesser extent) all seem a little too big. I wouldn't use a black captain's patch on a black jersey, unless you were doing a blackout effect on the whole jersey.

Overall: Big, Bold, and Totally B.A.... 8.2/10

Philadelphia Flyers - Grant G.

Yay:  Next up is Grant's Flyers alternate.  Again, utilizing black is a smart move.  Black hasn't been used often enough in the Flyer's jersey history, and it's time to introduce it again.  The jersey style is classic and tame, suiting the Flyers perfectly.

Nay: The orange dot in the logo looks bigger, which doesn't help at all.  The small silver stripes beside the white ones are barely noticeable, and it looks more like a mistake than a design choice.  The namebar that fans love so much (sarcasm) needs to go: white or orange letters are fine.  And the stripes on the arms and hem should have the same pattern, instead of one being inverted.

Overall: Black is good, but everything else isn't quite there yet.  7/10

Seattle Thunderbirds -  Jake88

Yay: Next up is a new set for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.  I love these colours, and the traditional look that the team has always had.  This concept goes from the Hartford Whalers template to something similar to the Blackhawks and Stars.  It's not a new design, but in these colours it looks gorgeous.  Everything I look for in a good concept is all here.

Nay:  It would be nice to see some stripes or something on the pants, but that's about it.

Overall: It's not the most original set, but it's believable, new to the Thunderbirds, and looks great! 8.5/10

Utica Blizzard - Ryan C.

Yay: Last up is a concept from Ryan, for the non-successful Utica Blizzard of the UHL. They were only around for 3 years, and I could only see one uniform when searching online, which was a red/blue/black version of the 90's St. Louis Blues jersey.  However, the jersey doesn't look too legit, so I have my doubts.  Their logo had blue instead of black text, but this version looks better in my opinion.  The jersey is very interesting but would be just crazy enough for a 90's minor league team.

Nay: The name font is too small, the logo looks a little too big, and it would be nice to see a league patch on the jersey to give this concept a dose of realism.

Overall: The concept needs some execution work, but it's always cool when a little-known minor league team gets a redesign that looks this good.  7.8/10

My COTW nominee this week is Jake88's Seattle Thunderbirds concept.  If it makes it to the COTW vote, then you'll get a chance to vote for it in 2 weeks, as next week we will be postponing the COTW vote to make room for the mega vote of the year: The 2015 COTY.

That's it for me today, as always thanks for reading, and have a good weekend!

Wednesday the 28th

Yes, that's right. It's the 28th. Big deal, huh? It is. Why? Because that means were getting closer to crowning the Concept of the year! It's Dylan A. Going up against Jake88 in the first matchup, both concepts red and blue and very patriotic! The next matchup is Jake88 going up against myself! I have a feeling both votes will end up being very tight! The past few weeks we've been hitting near the 20 vote count, so since this is a big vote, why not try and aim for 30! I know we have at least 30 regular readers, so send your votes in by Friday!

COTY Semi-Final votes (end Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Jan 18-24 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
World Cup entries (due February 6 @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Let's see if we have a potential COTY concept in today's post!

Ben creates a yellow and purple throwback uniform for the Kings, which is what the team will be wearing some time this year. I don't mind the inclusion of grey, as long as it's the silver material they currently use, as it's sparkly and stands out compared to the boring usual grey. A few things I would change, Switch up the name and numbers. The NOB never looks good at the bottom of a jersey, and the numbers are way to high. The Logo is a bit too low. Yellow pants would be an eye sore. I Like the yoke stripes, it'd be cool to have the shoulder logo (make it a bit bigger) over them. Overall: Nice to see some creativity but execution hurts this concept. (6/10)

 Daniel L - Sporting Kansas

Love the colour scheme here, simple but stunning. Kansas has a classy branding and it shows on a hockey jersey as well.  These uniforms stay true to the Adidas branding which is quite nice. Nothing here blows my mind, although I do think the design is sharp. I wouldn't mind seeing it continue on the back instead of stopping on the sides. Overall: Keep up the series! (8/10)

Danny R - All star game

At first I was with Danny, why not have two coloured jerseys but after the ASG game i really liked the white jerseys. Danny uses the Stadium series template which isn't a bad idea considering this is a modern colour scheme. I just don't like the chrome logos, and I know a lot of people are with me on that. There seem to be random stars everywhere... I'd tone it down. Get rid of the ones below the logo, and maybe sublimate the rest. Overall: I like to see modern jerseys go all out, but this one seems a bit messy, and not the kind of modern I like. (7/10)

Patrick W - Erie Otters

The Otters IMO have the worst jersey in the OHL. Patrick fixes that with a simple yet classy set. The colours look so much better in these jerseys. It doesn't look like a paint bucket fill jersey, The yoke and chest stripe look great. I really only see 2 issues. One being the logo is a tad big. The second being the numbers. I'd make the NOB bigger and lower the numbers to centre them with the chest stripe, and would make the last outline yellow or red. Overall: so much better than what they wear now! (8.5/10) COTW NOM

Ryan C - Muskegon Fury

Thank you Ryan for not using that awful shoulder logo as the primary. Ryan has vowed to improve himself, and ditch the AK template, to create his own and unique striping! The one here is simple and works well with the diagonal logo. The number on the back is a bit big. Not much to say here, a simple concept. Overall: I look forward to seeing you improve Ryan, I can feel it already! (7/10)
