Monday: 20 20 20 4 hours to go, I Wanna See Some Hockey!!

Hey readers, happy Monday, the NHL season kicks off tomorrow, and let the new rivalries begin (looking at you Blackhawks, Blues, Wild, Stars & Avs fans!!)

Here are your voting reminders for the week, as well as contest deadlines. Lets get those voting numbers up to double digits this week!
COTW Sept 23-29 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern time)
Colgate Autism Awareness entries (due Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern time)

Here are the Colgate University Women's Hockey Autism Awareness Game entries which have come in so far:

Caleb F.

Adam H.

Caden P.

Rob C.

As I promised are my predictions for this season, I just jumbled Ryan's predictions as I had a pretty similar predictions, some will like it, some will not!

I know many won't agree with me with the Canucks, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did make the playoffs, but I don't see them doing that well, same with the Stars. The Jets... I am biased in saying they will make it, but don't be surprised if Nashville's killer defence may over take them. The Caps and Blue Jackets are interchangeable, and Detroit and Montreal could bother be playoff teams. What do you guys think...good picks? Bad picks? Give your picks, I'm sure the other writers will do the same, and different opinions are good, leads to discussions.

Oh, also, I bought a new jersey, to add to my collection, and I want you guys to guess what it is. Here are the hints:

1. Made the playoffs 12 straight seasons wearing this jersey
2. A patriotic team
3. worn during an entertaining Winter Classic
4. White

On to the concepts!!!

Team Finland Concepts (By: Brady S.)

First off, I may have lost to Brady in fantasy baseball, maybe, but none the less...Finland. This goes along with the theme of the reviled Olympic jerseys, with minimalist designs, and this matches well to that theme. The colours are used well, and I like that the bright blue is the main blue on coloured jersey. I'm not sure if I like the lack of shoulder patches or numbers, and maybe a light blue yoke on the white jersey would look better. (7.5/10)

Winnipeg Jets Concept (By: Coby S.)

I love getting Jets concepts, they are after all the best team in the NHL. I'm not really feeling this concept though, mainly due to the lack striping. I like the inclusion of red, and the inclusion of the light blue and white, but that's where my liking ends. The red looks awkward, and should be used as a yoke or as an arm band, and would look better balanced on the bottom, or don't include it at all. (5/10)

Nickelodeon Fan Jersey Concepts (By: Gerard M.)

I'll be honest, I did not know what show this was from, until I looked at the kilt/shorts/skirt on the bottom of the jersey, and then it hit me...Hey Arnold! That in mind, the Arnold jersey looks great, matches his outfit from the show perfectly, and the kilt and name are a good shout out. The pink jersey, I think is from the obsessive girl who loves/hates Arnold, I like it too, and I think it matches the look from the show, but maybe not the orange. Execution looks good too. (8/10)

Seattle Emeralds Concepts (By: Gerard M.)

One thing that is hard to do in the concept world is make a good concept without using white, Gerard actually does this rather well, and while using a darker colour scheme on top of that. I've never understood why Emeralds is such a popular name for Seattle, just like Rainers, but I love the logo and colour scheme, I like the lack of white on the home and road, but maybe not on the alternate. It reminds me too much of the HORRENDUS Seattle Seahawks lime green jersey, but I think some tweaking good make the jersey look better. (8.5/10)

Slovan Bratislava Concepts (By: Jake88)

The Russian equivalent of the Robo Pens, Slovan's logo  make way for many modern idea, and this is a good idea right here. I love the arm stripes and the numbers, those really match the logo well. I don't like the non matching hem stripes, I'd make the jerseys match more. (7/10)

Swift Current Broncos Concept (By: Jayson T.)

I love the Swift Current look, the gray and blue and black are a great, and I think they need a new alternate, as the Buff-a-slug trash jerseys they have now are terrible. Yes, this is a blatant cookie cutter jersey, but I like the idea, and I don't hate template concepts when done right, and this is done right. The blues don't match though, and the shoulder patches should go on to the back as well as the front. Also, the name is a little low, and the Reebok Vector should be the script. (6/10)

New York Islanders Concepts (By: Jeff C.)

The Islanders logo is heavily dated, it's good, but like the Oilers, it is a little dated, and Jeff suggests a new look. I'm not huge on the logo, but he jerseys make up for that. I like the great amount of white on the blue jersey and the balanced colours on the white jersey, though a little more orange wouldn't hurt. The same could be said with white on the orange jerseys logo, but still, this is a nice concept. (7/10)

St. Louis Blues Concepts (Kristofer M.)

This is classic Blues, no red, no dark blue and no vertical stripes, just light blue, yellow and white. I made a concept similar to this a while ago, and I think 100% of us love that white jersey, and would make an amazing alternate. The blue jersey is good too, but just prefer the white jersey, I really love the white jersey. I kind of like how the yoke stops on the Reebok script and maybe a yoke would work on the blue jersey. (8.5/10) COTW Nom. from me.

Boston Bruins Concepts (By: Stephen T.)

I like this idea, and the winter classic like striping is a great idea, I wasn't a huge fan of Boston's Winter Classic jerseys when they came out, but they've grown on me, making me love yellow jerseys. The yellow jersey is the better of the two, though this is probably meant to be a set. The logo is a little low though, cutting down on the tie down would make that easier, and maybe shrinking and making the shoulder patches less pixelated would help with the execution. (7/10)

So this is the Monday post, all wrapped up. Do you agree with my ratings, have COTW nomination in mind, ready to make a Colgate entry? Remember to do all that and more today, and have a great week.

The new COTW nominees have been listed for the final COTW vote in September. They are in the black banner on the side of the page. After we get that week's winner, we'll move on to the COTY-September vote. Which is followed by the 3rd Quarter Vote! This year is going by so quickly for me. Voting ends on Friday.

It's time for a new competition to start on HJC. This week's comp will have a prize!

Colgate University and their women's hockey team are in need of a jersey for their Autism Awareness game. The winner of this competition will have their concept made and it will be worn by the team. The winner will also get a jersey themselves with their choice of number! All of the necessary details are on the COLGATE COMP page. Or you can click the banner at the top of the page. Entries are due by the end of Friday.

Why are we doing a competition for Colgate University? Let me explain a little more...

Back in March of this year, Greg Fargo (head coach - Colgate University women’s hockey team) contacted me and was interested in having new jerseys designed for his team. He was interested in having them designed by a HJC concept artist. He didn’t want it to be known at the time that the team was looking for new uniforms, so he asked me to keep the process “internal”.

I got the details from Greg as far as colours, guidelines, and how much freedom we would have with the logos, etc. Greg wanted to stick to the classic Colgate colours and logos, but everything else was fair game. He also gave us an idea of some jersey designs he liked using examples of concepts from HJC. He made it clear that the home and road jerseys needed to be a little different from each other.

Eight HJC concept artists were chosen to take a shot at the new Colgate jerseys. Five of them sent something in. The artists were given two weeks to come up with some ideas. You can take a look at some of the concepts that came in here.

When Greg saw the concepts he was impressed. He then asked if we would create the jerseys for the team’s training camp. For the camp jerseys he needed a black team and a white team. Greg really wanted jerseys that used only outlines for the logo. He also gave us other branding criteria.

Nearly a month after the process began, Greg and the rest of the coaches made their decisions for the home and road jerseys.
A few changes were made to the home white jersey concept and unfortunately the road maroon concept was scrapped all together.
Maroon jersey logo was later changed

In the end, I ended up designing Colgate’s Elite Camp jerseys...

...and their new home white jersey!

The first game was today (Sept 29) and I’m looking forward to seeing the jersey in action! It was an amazing process to be a part of and Greg liked the work so much that he has decided to hold a competition on HJC to design their Autism Awareness game jersey!

Caden asked me to give his blog a mention here on the Weekend Update. Caden appears to post a little something everyday, so bookmark

If you have a blog that you would like mentioned on the Weekend Update email it in and look for it here on a Sunday post.

I know a lot of you probably hate pro wrestling, but I've recently gotten back into it...a little bit anyways. One of their performers, CM Punk, is from Chicago and is a big Hawks fan. Well Chicago is where the show was held on Monday. So to play to the crowd he came out in a Blackhawks jersey.
As you can see, this apparent Blackhawks fan showed up on national TV, with millions watching, wearing a Chinese knockoff! I guess this continues to prove that most fans can't tell the difference between a licensed jerseys and a fake.

As I do every year, here are my standings predictions for the 2013-14 NHL season. The Western Conference is made up of the Pacific and Central divisions and the Eastern Conference is made up of the Metropolitan and Atlantic divisions. The top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs and then the remaining teams from the conference battle it out for two wildcard spots (noted with an asterisk *). The lower seeded wild card team plays the division winner with the best record. The best wild card team plays the division winner with the 2nd best record. 2nd and 3rd in each division will play each other.
Did I leave your team out of the playoffs? Did I make any stupid predictions? Let me know how right or wrong you think I will be.

Saturday: Goodbye, farewell and amen...

It is with a very heavy heart that I must officially announce that this is to be my final post as a writer for this blog. You're all no doubt aware that the blog is seeking a new Saturday writer, since the other writers have been advertising the vacancy, but this is my actual goodbye. Unfortunately, Ryan and I came to a bit of an impasse caused by my irregular schedule at work that made me unable to fulfill my commitments as a writer on this blog. Thus, we came to an amicable agreement to end my time as a writer here. As much as I would love to continue to be a writer on this blog, I cannot give it the attention it deserves because of the time commitments required for work, so I hope that my successor is better able to do so. I also hope that the readership of this blog enjoyed my writing. I know my work was a bit unusual compared to the other writers, but I still hope I left a positive impression on all of you. I will continue to create concepts to submit to this blog and others. Maybe someday I will return to this blog, even if only once in a while.

So, thank you for having me. I appreciate you giving me your time and your concepts. Before I move onto the concepts, I leave you with this note in song form.

***EDIT by Ryan***
If you plan on applying to be the HJC Saturday writer, you need to click the banner at the top of the page and have your application in by 10pm Eastern time TONIGHT!

Minnesota Wild (by Ben)

Ben's concept melds several Minnesota Wild ideas and puts them on a Nike template. It's a solid idea but I would have used some vintage white. Also, I don't care for the script logo being used as the primary. It's just not a very good logo for Minnesota. Overall, I'll give it a 7/10.

Canada (by Brady)

This concept gets points purely on the basis of not being the terrible jerseys that Canada will actually be wearing at the Olympics. Simple and effective. It's a pity that nothing can be done about the awful collar design Nike is forcing on everyone. Overall, I'll give it an 8/10.

Pittsburgh Penguins (by Dylan W.)

Here's an interesting concept for the Penguins. It's not quite a fauxback but it's certainly better than any of the blue jerseys they've worn in the past. I don't like the use of the Robopen, though. If used at all, the Robopen should be restricted to a shoulder patch. Overall, I'll give it an 8/10.

Canada (by Frank)

Here's another Canada concept. This one is just as traditional and for that reason I really like it. There's really nothing wrong with this one. Overall, I'll give it an 8/10.

United States (by Jake88)

Ah, it's nice to get a break from the future silver medal winners and see a gold medal-winning team's concept instead. This is definitely an improvement over what the US will be winning their gold in at Sochi, apart from the fact that the logo wouldn't fly at the Olympics. Overall, I'll give it an 8.5/10.

Indianapolis Racers (by Jayson)

Jayson's effort brings a short-lived WHA team to the modern age and imagines what the Racers would look like if they'd been an NHL expansion team that had survived to this day. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the yoke-less look on the home and away. The alternate is great, though. Overall, I'll give it a 7/10.

Canada (by Stephen)

Very interesting. I certainly wouldn't want to see what Canada would look like in anything other than red and white (which is why their black jersey will look awful) but this is certainly a very interesting look for the Eh Team. It's excellent in its simplicity. Overall, I'll give it an 8/10.

Vancouver Canucks (by Steven)

Steven's de-Edge series continues by modifying the Canucks to meld two different eras. I've always been a fan of the v-sleeve design so that gets a plus from me. Also, the subtle incorporation of the silver works really well. Personally, I would have used the orca logo as the shoulder patch. Overall, I'll give it an 8.5/10.

Pittsburgh Penguins (by TG)

I don't know if the gradient sleeve jersey would have worked as both a home and road, but TG's effort is admirable. It's nice to see someone taking on one of the more outrageous jerseys in NHL history. I can't help but think that the look would be improved by the addition of a shoulder patch. Overall, I'll give it a 7/10.

Friday: It's Time

It may be Friday, but it's my last post of the pre-season with opening night on Tuesday. The Ducks are opening on the road in Colorado who lost their most recent pre-season game last night and Buffalo is at new division opponent Detroit's Joe Louis Arena. In other news, I think Commissioner Andrews sees something in me because he gave me the first copy (fresh off the shelves) of the 2013-14 AHL Media Guide at the start of class on Wednesday night. Also, our class had made the Springfield Republican newspaper on Tuesday (as we had a photographer in class the week before). If you ever get to meet Dave Andrews, he's pretty cool. And now the important designer stuff! Reminders, as usual, are included below

We are looking for a new writer on SATURDAY. Please click the banner above for details!
If you've applied before, feel free to submit again.

USSR Comp To 5 vote (ends tonight @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Sept 16-22 vote (ends tonight @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Tampa Bay Lightning (Justin F.)

Let me start this one off by saying I like where this is going - a lot. The striping alignment is fantastic. I could do without the yoke and outline however, as well as at least a single (if not double) outline on the numbers. If a double outline is to be used, consider matching the striping. I'd like to see a black uniform in TSP again. One thing I will point out about the hem strip is that it should probably be raised a little bit and the to remove the stitching below it. An 8 out of 10.

Ottawa Senators (Nikesh B.)

I'm not big on the two stripe thing, but it definitely makes sense for the franchise. Everything appears to be alright, assuming this was created in MS Paint. But I think I would like to see this become a set with a white as well as a black one to see if we can use either colored uniform as an alternate. Even if it isn't in the striping as has been the case before, I would like to see the return of the reeds as is on the 00/01-06/07 alternate. A 7 out of 10.

Anaheim Ducks (Alan H.)

I've always loved this template, but it hasn't really had that perfect "match made in heaven" to be used for. This isn't one of those, although not bad at all. When we had that competition recently, it reminded me how thankful I am that my boys aren't wearing those colors. Unfortunately, the logo stayed - beggars can;t be choosers I guess. I like the distribution of the colors but you can never get the combo for the logo right, I tried this with the logo after the comp was over and that didn't work well at all. The striping pattern is  a go with me but the name and number outline should switch the orange and black around. A 7.5 out of 10.

Rockford IceHogs (Kyle N.)

Definitely out of the box work from Kyle here. I appreciate the effort - especially for a non-NHL team, but I'm not a fan of the striping on the home white in this concept. If it matches the road black (with the accommodating adjustments), I'll be happy with that. Also, I would remove the extended black cuffs from the alternate. The alternate should probably go white in numbers as red on red just doesn't fly with me. A 6.5 out of 10.

Anaheim Ducks (Dylan W.)

Okay, this is significantly different from a typical Ducks concept. This might be more wild than the original Wild Wing jersey. I like the use of the eggplant and jade up until we get to the arm and hem striping. While the striping itself is great, the excess white kills the mood of the jersey, while it would be better if said excess is eggplant and help significantly even though not the best solution. I wouldn't be chill with a lack of striping but nothing exciting. Simple would be the way to go with that. A 7.5 out of 10.

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (Scott D.)

"Soo" needs to get a new logo in order for me to take their uniforms seriously because I can't do the bi-color thing (except for the Red Wings who have been pulling it off for years). The gray won't do, but it would be a step in the right direction nonetheless. I would try to be more entertaining with the home and road striping  for starters. Then after that I don't know if there is anything else anyone can do. Maybe Darnell Nurse can operate, a 6 out of 10.

Univ. of Miami (Mike S.)

As Mike moves right along with the Atlantic Coast Conference, a storm front is passing through Miami. This one is really the eye of the hurricane - virtually perfect balance in this concept. Orange numbers with white would go better to match the logo but what I like most here is the yoke. Not quite like the Bruins not because it has two colors, but that it doesn't extend to the outline. The pant striping I'm alright with despite the mismatch as it is appropriate to Miami's history with said pattern. The storm warning reads an 8.5 out of 10.

Calgary Flames (Trevor M.)

There is a lot to this one. numbers are over-sized and the lack of TV numbers is also evident. I don't know that an outline is necessary for the NOB. I'd try to stick with solid colored collars. Those collar inserts probably stay the color of the jersey. I would like to see matching striping patterns on the home and road - preferably the one from the latter. It wouldn't be a bad idea to fix the top stripe of the hem on the back of the alternate, which by the way has a great crest that could use slightly larger numbers. I wen't down to the ring of fire and the Flames can get higher at a 5.5 out of 10.

Adirondack Frostbite (Jake88)

Dave Andrews just mentioned in class about how Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is trying to convince the temporary Adirondack Phantoms to stay in Glens Falls. Based on the old United Hockey League team, Jake 88 relocates the Lake Erie Monsters (currently situated at the Q in Cleveland). This might be a better alternative. The colors are surprisingly good for this concept. I wonder if this is a. Once again, I am surprised not to see the gloves colored in. I'm still not completely sure why, but I'm a stripes on the pants kind of guy so something has to be there for me. Turn up the thermostat to an 8.5 out of 10.

The Commissioner tells us that we have an in-class assignment at a Hartford Wolfpack game next month. That will be . . . interesting. In the mean time I would like to go to an NHL game at the TD Garden whilst i'm in the are, but that may have to wait. In any event, enjoy your weekends!

Thursday: Early Riser

Quick note: Yes, this post was originally up at 4:30am this morning.  I was just practicing getting up early to watch the hockey games during the Olympics...

Just kidding, anyone who knows me knows I'm not that much of a morning person.  I made a goof in scheduling this post, and thankfully Ryan noticed this before too many people saw this and fixed the problem.  Hopefully that is my one rookie mistake done and over with.  Thank you to Ryan and Dylan W. for their help this morning, and sorry for any inconvenience.  Now then, on with the show.

Hello again everyone.  I'm back for Round 2 here at HJC, and I'm excited to get this next post going.  I really like all of the Return of the Soviets concepts, voting for your favourite 5 is going to be extremely hard to do, but good luck to all who entered.

One quick note, HJC is looking for a new writer on Saturdays. Do you want to show off your blogging  skills on the coolest hockey design blog around?  Of course you do!  Click on the big white box above, download the concepts from the link on the page, write a mock-post using those concepts, and send it to us.  Its so easy, even I figured it out.  And the best part: you'll be writing for Saturday.  There's always hockey games on Saturday, so you could write about hockey, while watching hockey, and help people read about hockey.  Hockey-ception! So go ahead and send in your mock-post, and join the HJC team!

Oh, and another thing before I get to the concepts.  Voting turnout for COTW last week was awful.  Not just awful, but Buffaslug-awful!  Yes, I'm being slightly hypocritical, because I forgot to vote last week as well.  But just saying, hopefully this week people are more involved with voting.  All it takes is an e-mail.

USSR Comp To 5 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Sept 16-22 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Metallurg Novokuznetsk Concept - Frank C.

Frank starts us off with a concept from the KHL.  Currently, Novokuznetsk uses a red jersey at home, and a grey one on the road, with a red version of the logo used on the road jersey.  Frank sticks with the black logo, which I like.  I like the overall design, but it screams New Jersey a little too much to call this totally original.  Everything looks clean, and in place, besides one of the TV numbers on the road jersey  being coloured incorrectly.  Plus, as much as I like the font used for the numbers, I think Frank went a little overboard with the stroke of the road numbers.  Get rid of the white stroke on the numbers, and fix your TV numbers, and this isn't a bad set by any means.  7/10

Seattle Thunderbirds Concept - Jake88

Jake88 gives us his version of the Seattle Thunderbirds.  I love their current set, reminds me of the Hartford Whalers.  This set is...well...interesting.  First of all, I really don't know what to think of the striping pattern on the road white set.  Unique, for sure.  But it doesn't translate well on a hockey jersey in my eyes, it just takes away from what is a really classic colour scheme.  The home blue set looks more like a hockey jersey, but I have some problems with it as well.  I don't see the point of the smaller while and green stripes on the hem, especially because it isn't used on the arms.  It just looks out of place.  I don't think it's necessary on the yoke either, since the road set has a blank yoke itself.  I don't know if I like the road set, but I think I'd like the concept more if it was an identical set with that design, instead of two totally different designs.  It's cool, but I think it needs work.  6.5/10

San Antonio Rampage Concept - Kyle N.

Kyle gives us a set from San Antonio's AHL club.  I've always liked the black and silver colour scheme.  I'm glad LA went back to their 90's roots with it, and the Rampage obviously take their scheme from the San Antonio Spurs NBA club.  This is a really good set, and uses the colours well to make a unique, modern look, and not just a Kings knock-off set.  Where the Rampage's current set looks pretty bland, this really stands out.  As a few nitpicks: as much as I like the TV numbers on the arm striping, I really think they should be higher on the arm, and I think the name and back numbers are just a little too big.  But other than that, excellent work. 7.8/10

Duke Blue Devils Concept - Mike S.

Mike's Duke design takes the decent jersey of the current Blue Devils look, and changes it to look like Duke is an 'Original Six' sort of team in the NCAA.  Really cool.  Not too many teams, especially university teams, can handle such a simple, 2-toned design, but Scott really finds a match in this Duke set.  Everything is executed well, and attention to detail is big on this design.  My one problem is that the wordmark logo should stand out a little bit more.  Its hard to notice the unique detailing of the "Duke" name, so maybe a bit of spacing and stroke fixes could help it.  Otherwise, a solid 8.3/10.

Pittsburgh Penguins Concept - Scott D.

Scott D. dishes out this rather unique set for the Penguins.  It's really flashy, in a good way, and I like the yoke and collar pattern of the design.  I do have a bit of a problem with the striping pattern, mainly the hem pattern.  The hem pattern follows the pattern on the arms, except for the bottom where it finishes with the opposite colour.  It makes the bottom of the jersey look out of place from the rest of the jersey. Some people like that style I guess, I'm not one of them.  I think it's always best to have the hem and arms match, unless one has a unique design.  My only other suggestion on the jersey is to maybe lift the back number a little bit, or make it just a little larger.  Other than that, it's a pretty cool.  With a bit of work, it can be a good concept, but I'l go with 7/10 for now.

AHL All-Star Game Concept - Scott M.

Scott M. gives us a concept for the AHL all-star jerseys.  I'm usually not a fan of jerseys with mis-matching arms.  It looks trendy and never seems to translate well on a hockey jersey.  However, this looks really flashy, something an all-star set should be, and it looks clean.  It carries the theme of the AHL branding well, and it looks like a very solid set.  I really don't have any complaints here.  Personally, I'd think about changing the road pants from red to blue, just to make some difference between the two jerseys.  That might not be best, its just my vision of it.  Anyways, 9/10 and COTW nom from me.

Pittsburgh Penguins Concept - Stephen T.

Keeping on the theme of "one-armed" jerseys, as I call them, Stephen gives us another Penguins set for today.  Remember how I said I normally don't like these sorts of concepts?  That applies here.  I really think this is a unique concept, and a cool idea, but I think Pittsburgh is better served keeping their more traditional look than going to something like this.  I also think, instead of the robo-penguin logo, you should see TV numbers on both arms.  I'd also rearrange the colours on the home jersey, either by switching the black with gold to match the arms of the other jersey, or by switching the white on the arms with gold to keep the same pattern of colours from the road jersey.  Hopefully that ramble made sense.  I'd also shrink the logo a bit, and maybe think of something a bit more creative for the socks, or at least make gold more relevant. And there is also an error with the home collar, with the front being black and the back being white, small fix.  I still don't like the arm design, but it has potential to change my mind.  6.5/10

Anaheim Ducks Unused Colours Concept - Steve M.

As an aside, this contest was very hard, and it was cool to see how many unique designs came from it.  Congrats to everyone who entered on having pretty cool entries.  Steve's entry here is definitely a good, simple design, that is executed fairly well.  My favourite of the set is the alternate, no colour seems out of place, and it looks like a traditional set while having outrageous colours, and still looks cool.  The main set is designed nicely, but I have a problem with the logo being pretty much the only bronze on the entire jersey.  It just looks out of place to me.  But other than that, really good effort.  7.6/10

Toronto Maple Leafs Concept - SG-94

We end today with SG-94's Toronto Maple Leafs set.  Toronto sets are very easy to make, but very hard to master, since their style has been so simple forever, and every attempt to make them look flashy has ended miserably.  This is a nice, clean set, and I like seeing how the logo was used in the design choices of the stripes.  This set looks most like their early 2000's set, in my opinion their best look.  The small stripes give the jersey something new while still looking like it's always belonged on a Maple Leafs jersey.  The cuffs stay true to their roots too, which is a plus.  It was a hard choice for my COTW nom this week, but this loses out because this isn't a huge, mind-blowing advancement from what Toronto currently wears now.  But this is a very good design nonetheless.  8.9/10

That's all I got for today.  I hope you guys like my reviews, and I look forward to coming back next Thursday for yet another post.  Thanks for reading, and have a good Friday!
