The winner of the 2013 COTY Logo Competition was Justin C!

Justin's logo will now be used as the 2013 Concept of the Year logo here on HJC. You'll see it appear on the blog around January and it will also show up on the championship plaque that is sent to the winner.

With all of October's COTW winners determined, we can proceed with the COTY-October vote! The entrants are listed on the side of the page in the red banner. You can click on that banner (or go to the COTY 2013 page) to see the concepts entered. Voting ends on Friday.

We can now also begin to gather the November COTW winners. That starts with the vote for Nov. 4-10. There were 11 concepts nominated, but only the three listed were seconded. You can see those concepts on the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK page or by clicking the black banner on the side of the page. Again, voting ends on Friday.

It's time for a new competition! This week we are doing a classic HJC ReDesign for an AHL team. The Milwaukee Admirals! In my opinion, this team has one of the best logos and colour schemes in the AHL. Unfortunately, their jerseys are awful, boring creations directly from the fine creative minds at Reebok.

All of the rules and details can be found by clicking the competition banner at the top of the page or by going to the ADMIRALS COMP tab. Entries are due by the end of Friday.

Back in July Andrew G. won the 2013 HJC Open. The prize for winning the tournament was a post dedicated entirely to his work and a championship t-shirt. Andrew got his post, no problems. However, the shirt proved to be problematic. During the HJC Open I lost my job, so I was unemployed for the 3 months after that. That meant Andrew had to wait for his shirt, but it is now in his hands and he sent a picture of it in.
You too can own this shirt, and many other pieces of HJC merch by clicking the HJC Store icon near the top-right of the page.

Jesper W. has taken his best crack at the 2014 Nike Swift template.
He's also provided a full body view, which may be helpful to some.
The collars on this template are compatible with most of the collars offered on the other Nike Swift templates found on the TEMPLATES page. This full body view will also be available on that page.

On the topic of Nike, I can't believe they had the sack to use the exact same jersey for both Team USA and Team Slovakia!
I like both jerseys individually, but now that two teams are wearing the same thing, I like each jersey less. Yes, I know there are some differences such as stars and national anthems, etc. However, to non-jersey nerds, these will come across as the same.

Right now, Nike likely isn't overly concerned with any of the backlash coming from fans regarding all of the 2014 designs. To them the success of these jerseys will be determined by how many are purchased from store shelves. If the Buffa-slug taught us anything it's that even a bad jersey can still sell well.

At least we only have to live with these designs for four years.

Just last night I posted my thoughts on the 2014 Olympic jerseys, that have been released, on the HJC Design Blog. Check it out here.

I can't help but think that if Reebok was making the jerseys for the IIHF, they'd be much worse.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like the Slovakia jersey is more cream than white. If you squint and look at the side by side photo, the USA jersey is more of a pure white... Almost blueish and the Slovakia jersey is on the yellowish side... Maybe it's my display, maybe it's the photo, or maybe I'm just hallucinating....

I'm really liking those Nike templates. I like to be able to show how the entire set looks together, and full body templates are very useful in that regard.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know of a website that is similar nhluniforms.com, but for IIHF jerseys? I've been looking for one, but I've had no luck. It would really help when I'm doing research on some of the more obscure countries for my Saturday posts. Thanks.
