Winnipeg Jets concepts (by NB14)
Primary logos have been applied much better here. However, the jersey just looks like the fill tool has been taken to available spaces. Try some stripes or other designs instead of just big blocks of colours.

Anaheim Ducks concepts (by Ian)
I really think the home and road sweaters here look great. The D logo with the oval shoulder patches go well together. For the alternate, inspired by the mid-2000's alt, I would have gone with the retro logo from the oval shoulder patches as the primary crest. Then perhaps the D as the shoulder patches there.

Atlanta tribute concept (by Mazzz)
Mazzz tributes the city which has had 2 failed hockey clubs. The re-colouring of the Thrashers logo actually looks really cool. It might have worked if the Thrashers went in that direction with a jersey at some point.

HJC Concept (by Justin)
Justin sent this in when discussion first started a couple of weeks ago about a HJC jersey. I liked his shoulder patch so much that I included it in the shoulder patch options for the comp.

Vancouver Canucks concepts (by Tex)
We saw this blue concept from Tex sometime last week, but now he has included a white version. This is a really nice looking Vancouver set. Even better that their home and roads now.

Dallas Stars concepts (by Brandon C.)
The home and road jerseys are pretty cool, but I'm not sold on that alternate. This may be odd, but the one thing that I do really like about that alt is the collar colours choice. I think if the green and yellow were switched on the stripes I would like that alt more. Great execution though!

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Mason H.)
This is a great concept based on the home uniform of the Steelers. As is, this is cool. I think if you added another white stripe between the other two and used "Robo-Penguin" as a shoulder patch, then this would also be a cool look for the Penguins.

Plymouth Whalers concepts (by Kevin) Description on concepts.

Sarnia Sting concepts (by Dylan A.)
Dylan is considering all of these as a possible entry into the Sting's 3rd Jersey Competition. I'd say all 6 could probably win, depending on what the team is looking for. If I had to choose a favourite, it would be #1, #4, or #5. From those it would be tight, but I'd take #5. COTW nom from me!

Announcing the HJC Jersey Competition

As you can see below, the HJC Jersey Primary Logo run-off vote didn't solve anything except that Logo #1 has been eliminated from consideration.
These results have also caused me to change my mind about how we create this jersey. That is where is HJC Jersey Competition comes in.

Use one of the three remaining logos to create a HJC jersey. The winner's jersey will be made into the official HJC jersey! Now, there are a lot more rules/details for this competition than normal, so you MUST read the HJC JERSEY page before you get started.

I'm hoping to have a fun post for Sunday (April Fool's Day). If you have a concept that would be appropriate for the day, send it in and it may be used on Sunday's post.

Today is the last day to vote for Concept of the Week.
COTW Mar 19-25 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)

--------------------------------------

Washington Capitals concept (by NB14)
We got some major problems here. Instead of showing us the shoulder patch, you should also place it on the shoulders. However, the image of the shoulder patch uses a blue background, but the yokes are red. The number on the back is too large and there are no TV numbers. There are also a lot of loose/un-coloured pixels on the collar, logo, and Reebok wordmark.

Los Angeles Kings concepts (by Dmitri)
Dmitri wants the Kings to bring back the purple 3rd jersey and the hem stripes. I agree with him on the hem stripes issue. I would like that "Chevy logo" jersey if the wordmark was removed from the hem and an entirely black collar was used. Really good execution on these though.

Team Switzerland concepts (by Caz)
The jersey are decent, but there are a couple of things I would change. I would remove the writing from the logo and place it above the rear hem, or something like that. I would also make the logo smaller and place it over the player's heart, like what they wore at the 2010 Olympics.

Carolina Hurricanes concepts (by Brandon C.)
I really like this Canes set. The red jersey look fantastic as all of the current elements are assembled well. I also like the white jersey, but perhaps the cuffs would be better black? Really great execution too.

Owen Sound Attack concepts (by Kevin) Description on concepts.

HJC Jersey concept (by Stéphane)
Stéphane suggested, because I love the Leafs, that I make the HJC jersey is the same style as the team. I didn't agree, but it's still a cool idea. Stéphane couldn't help himself and has to make the concept. It looks good, but it must have curdled his Habs blood to make this one!

Mason H's Winter Classic Package
I'm giving this whole set a COTW nom because I like the concepts and the effort put in to everything here.

Winter Classic logo concept (by Mason H.)
While elements of the Colorado Rockies' logo has been used, this is still a good idea. Maybe changing the colour of the mountains would have slightly distanced this logo from the baseball team. Also, seeing how the NHL builds its event logos, they would probably have the NHL shield bigger.

Winter Classic ice surface concept (by Mason H.)
Nice work again. Seriously, what else do I say?

Winter Classic concepts (by Mason H.)
In his fictional game, Mason has the Avalanche host the Dallas Stars. I like the custom A logo on the Avalanche jersey, which gives a nice retro effect. Two things I'm not so hot on about the Stars jersey is the vintage white base colour and the North Stars logo used as shoulder patches. I guess the same goes for the Nordiques logos on the Avs concept. Still, some really great work here Mason.

Things Seem to be Picking Up

It's has seemed a little slow for the last few weeks here on HJC, but things seem to be picking up now. My inbox is filling up with more concepts and HJC is rolling now.

The run-off poll for the HJC jersey primary logo ends TONIGHT at 11:59pm EST. I have changed my mind (again) about how we are going to create this jersey. We will now have a HJC Jersey contest! However, don't start making concepts yet. There will be rules and guidelines which depend on the results of the primary logo poll.

COTW March 19-25 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)

--------------------------------

Brian B's Jersey Collection
Okay, it's not so much of a collection, rather just one jersey. Brian is very proud of his Habs jersey though. So proud in fact, that he sent me this really dark and grainy photo of it! Hopefully, you can add to this "collection" Brian. Get a $20 Buffa-slug jersey HERE. Or maybe you have $70,000 for a game worn Bobby Orr 1976-77 Hawks jersey?

Seattle Sonics concepts (by Tommy G.)
I like the sweaters and colours, but I just can't get past the fact that I know that the Sonics were a basketball team and that the same logos have be used (minus any basketball imagery). Also, if you can't angle the TV numbers properly for this template I would strongly suggest that you don't use it.

Anaheim Ducks concept (by NB14)
Here's a rule of thumb that everyone should abide by; don't colour your background the same colour as your jersey (unless it's white). This isn't a great concept as it just looks like spaces have been treated with the fill tool. Make sure to not un-coloured pixels at the tip of the collar and inside the Reebok wordmark. The details are what make good concepts. Refer to the TUTORIALS on the side of the page for all that info.

Anaheim Ducks concept (by Brandon C.)
We've seen Ducks concepts based on the old alternate jersey before. So, I will focus on the execution, which is really good here! No loose pixels around any of the logos and the numbers are properly placed. That collar may be the only good thing the Atlanta Thrashers ever gave us.

Baltimore Bandits concepts (by Chuckie)
The Bandits were an AHL team for a couple of seasons. Chuckie brings them back here using the logo of the minor league baseball team, the Quad Cities River Bandits. I actually like these colours on that generic Reebok striping pattern. There are a lot of fonts out there which could be used to make one's own "B" logo, so in my opinion using the iconic B of the Red Sox was a bad choice.

Oshawa Generals concepts (by Kevin) Description on concepts.
COTW nomination from me!

Detroit Red Wings concept (by Brandon C.)
The over-sized yokes, that the Bruins use, don't work for me on this concept. The double stripes are cool though. I know the NOB would interfere, but I don't like the relocation of the Reebok wordmark to the front of the jerseys.

Team Finland concepts (by Caz)
I love these. This is Caz's bets work so far! I think the flag pattern on the front is great and the fact that it stops on the sides and doesn't interfere with the player number and NOB is well done. The only thing that I don't understand is, what is "SISU" on the sleeve stripes?

Sarnia Sting concept (by Thomas L.)
Nice classic design here for the Sting's 3rd jersey competition. Maybe a white yoke outline would have improved this concept even more? Also, it appears that the shoulder patches have not been evenly placed on both sides.

Ottawa 67's concepts (by Kevin) Description on concepts.

Concepts: IIHF, Wild, and More!

The run-off poll to try and determine the primary logo for the HJC jersey continues until tomorrow night. It can be found on the HJC JERSEY page.

COTW Mar 19-25 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)

-------------------------------

Anaheim Ducks concept (by Jérémi)
Jérémi intends this as a 3rd jersey concept. The half and half colours are certainly an interesting idea, but the jersey also look very empty. Maybe if the numbers were half and half colour instead of black? Also, why no NOB?

Sarnia Sting concept (by Martin)
Wow, I see 3 different things going on here and, to me at least, they don't seem to go well with each other. The "hooks' on the front and back of the sweater are good and they feature mostly yellow. Then the arm stripes use mostly grey and feature a dotted pattern which seems a little lifeless to me. Also, there are 3 different logos on this jersey which makes it seem like they just tried to get as many as possible on there.

Team Sweden concepts (by Stephen T.)
I like the idea of the Swedish flag on the front of the jersey! After that, there are too many attempts to do the same thing over and over again, in my opinion. I also think that not centring the NOB because of the stripe is not a good move.

Team Czech Republic concepts (by Caz)
I think the jersey on the right does a great job of incorporating the nation's flag into the design. The jersey on the left though, reminds me of those tacky half home half road NHL sweaters that were popular in the early 90's.

Team Canada concept (by Matt R.)
I'm not a fan of these. If black is used on a Team Canada sweater I prefer it to be as a trim colour. I know international jersey stripes can get a little crazy, but these ones just don't make any sense to me. They seem too random. Also the TV numbers are incorrect. #9 should appear on one side then #1 on the other. As it is right now the TV numbers would appear as 9191, on both sleeves.

Niagara Ice Dogs concepts (by Kevin) Description on concepts.

Minnesota Wild concepts (by Matt M.)
Matt used a variation of these concepts a couple of weeks ago, which got him a nomination. He's made some adjustments based on comments, but the main feature is his adjustment of the now retired circle wordmark logo. I think his adjustment would fit nicely with the current Wild jerseys, but now I see the "WILD" font and it's starting to look dated to me.

Minnesota Wild concepts (by Brandon C.)
Adding shoulder patches and some red to the current 3rd jersey doesn't look great to me. However, I think that the white version here is awesome! I'm really looking forward to a jersey that can mix true white and vintage white together well. This one does that and because I like that white jersey so much, I'm giving this a COTW nomination.

Buffalo Sabres concepts (by Justin)
Justin has made a Sabres logo mash-up, which some may have seen some sort of version somewhere before. He has also added more white to the yellow stripes on the blue jerseys and used the old "B-sword" logo for shoulder patches. In my opinion, the changes made here are not an upgrade, but the whole concept and logo mash-up is really well executed.

COTW Mar. 19-25 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)

The logo that was chosen the most in the initial HJC Jersey primary logo poll, received enough negative feedback that I started a run-off poll. That poll features the top 4 chosen logos from the first poll. The run-off poll can be found on the HJC JERSEY page and will conclude on Wednesday.

---------------------------------------------

Calgary Flames concept (by NB14)
These colours worked, but only when the jersey was red, in my opinion. This concept also has some execution errors. The chest stripe is too low, the logo is too small, and the arm stripes are incomplete lines. NB14 has some more stuff on the way which gets better.

Sarnia Sting concept (by Arron)
This was Arron's entry for the Sarnia Sting's 3rd jersey competition. I like the simple two thick black stripes on the arms, and I also like the honeycomb yokes. Unfortunately, the black used on the numbers and NOB isn't the same as what's used on the uni and I'm not really digging the black hem.

Sarnia Sting concept (by Caz)
This is Caz's entry to the Sting competition. It also uses the arm striping that I like. I like the grey on the yokes, but not how it's used on the hem. Perhaps a grey stripe that curved with the hem and then outlined in black might have been better.

Montreal Canadiens concept (by HJC)
This is more of a plea than a concept. A plea for the Canadiens to adopt this early 70's inspired retro jersey as an alternate sweater. Bringing back the pants from the 50's would be great, but not essential. They don't even have to wear it 15 times a year, just home games against Original 6 opponents on Saturday nights!

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Matt R.)
Obviously the sleeve design is a tribute to their former team, the Thrashers. I was never a fan of that design, but I applaud Matt for trying something "out of the box". I didn't think that the shoulder patch would hold up as a primary crest, but Matt's concept has changed my mind on that.

Windsor Spitfires concepts (by Elias)
I wish the airplane was bigger in the logo, maybe even just stretching out of the circle. The Flyers striped jerseys do work well with it though. I love the effort that Elias has put into the images of the players wearing the uniforms, great work!

Michigan Wolverines concept (by D3troit1388)
I think this looks fantastic, but I also think that the wordmark needs to be bigger. It would be cool to see something like this at one of the games that the NCAA will play during the Winter Festival week before the 2013 Classic.

Vancouver Canucks concept (by Tex)
Tex has made some adjustments to the Canucks' 3rd jersey including, adding silver to the arm stripes, adding white cuffs, and changing the font to a more traditional block font. I like the captain's A on the front of the jersey, but I think the NOB font should match.

Columbus Blue Jackets concept (by Tyler G.)
Tyler has added the stripes from the socks to the home jersey on the arms. I like that idea, but I would have kept those stripes white instead of grey. Also, the numbers on the back are too close together and the outline is too thick, if the intention was to replicate what they wear now.

Columbus Blue Jackets concepts (by Scott M.)
These are really great Jackets concepts. I really like the white at the end of the sleeves on the blue jersey. Adding two more stars to the original above the cuffs was a great choice. The only issue that I see is that the blue in Avi's shoulder patch is not the same blue used on the jerseys. Still, some great work here Scott.
