HJC News

Week of October 3 - 9, 2011

Over the weekend, the Senators released the jersey most have been wanting to see for at least 3 years. With a new sweater release comes all the goodies that I try to provide. First we have a blank template. This and other templates can be found in the links at the bottom of the TEMPLATES page.

The Sens also created new bilingual shoulder patches for the sweater. I did my best to re-create those. These aren't official, but hopefully they can tide us over until we do get something official.

Also, the Sens will use a different font for the 3rd jersey. I have provided the new numbers below...

The new "Top 3" style voting for the ReDesigns worked really well! The winner of the St. John's Ice Caps competition is Shaun!
Results of the vote are below in the following format: [Name-PTS(1sts-2nds-3rds)

Shaun 13 (2-3-1)
Avi 12 (2-3-0)
Ryan 12 (2-1-4)
Nevill 7 (1-2-0)
Jari 7 (1-0-4)
Kevin 6 (1-1-1)
Martin 5 (1-1-0)
Jets96 5 (1-0-2)
Brian B. 3 (1-0-0)
Ricky 2 (0-1-0)
Stephen 0 (0-0-0)

Shaun's concept now moves into this week's COTW vote!

Last week's poll asked who you would build your franchise around. Though the conversation really didn't stay on topic too much, the usual suspects were found in the answers, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Toews, Getzlaf and more. I was surprised that Stamkos, Doughty, Weber, or Price weren't mentioned by anyone.

This week's Weekly Poll is the first of three times that I will ask this question. Who is going to win the Stanley Cup this season? You can click on the banner on the right or the WEEKLY POLL page to get your answer in. The other two times I will ask this question will be during the All-Star break and just before the playoffs begin.

On Saturday the HJC Fantasy League draft was held. Spirit's Champs took Alex Ovechkin with the #1 overall pick. During this week I will be piecing together a page so everyone can stay in touch with what is happening in the league.

COTW voting is on now! You can see the nominees by clicking on the banner on the left or going to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK page. Voting runs until Thursday @ 11:59pm EST. This is NOT "Top 3" voting.

With our ReDesigns, we are going to start getting into European leagues! This time around we will focus on the KHL. We will be ReDesigning SKA St. Petersburg. You can check out their Wikipedia page and their Sportslogos.net page by clicking those links. Click the banner on the right or go to the KHL COMP page to read all the rules. Submissions will be accepted until Sunday, October 9 @ 11:59pm EST.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks cocnepts (by Lachlan)
Ottawa Senators concept (by WinnipegJets96)

Winter Classic concepts (by Cody)Cody creates two new sweaters for this fictitious outdoor game. This looks very incomplete as it comes across as just a couple of jerseys that have been re-coloured and had logos slapped on them. I have been complaining about it for at least a month now... Where are NOB's, TV numbers and patches?!?!?!

Pittsburgh Penguins concepts (by Kris)Kris goes retro and then includes a powder blue jersey made from the same template. After seeing the darker blue jersey of the same template that they wore in the early 80's, I'm not a fan of this powder blue version. The concepts are still put together nicely though.

Washington Capitals concepts (by Michael N.)Michael uses the pre-Edge logo on the current colours. I really like the outlining around the collar and yokes. The stars on the sleeves give it too much of an All-Star feel, in my humble opinion. Still really cool jerseys. If the classic Hershey Bears weren't the farm team, these would be great for a Caps affiliated AHL team!

DEG Metro Stars concept (by Jose)Yes, this is a Capitals template. Also, it looks like Jose has placed DEG in the NHL. However, I really like the sublimated print on the front and back of the concept. Hopefully this concept gets you in the mood for our KHL contest!

Kris for Cotw, I love the colors.

I've loved all of Jose's European concepts as of late, great job! Also, the number font that you created for the Sens' 3rd appears to be a bit off (compare the 1 on Alfredsson's jersey to the 1 that was created).

WinnepegJets 96 for concept of the week!

@Brendan: You're right. I have hopefully fixed it.

Michael N's concept for CotW. The stars are because of thw DC flag of three red stars over two red bars.

Thanks for taking the time for creating the number font for the new Sens jerseys! I will take this time to point out that the 2 should look more like the font from the Islanders/Blackhawks and the 5 should have a serif pointing down at the top of the number. I analyzed the pics from the Senators' website photo gallery. Link here: http://senators.nhl.com/club/gallery.htm?id=24086&navid=DL|OTT|home
