HJC News

A Monday on a Tuesday

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple of days. Things got busy.

I'll start this week as I start every other week by announcing that the COTW nominees are posted. Go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab to view them. Voting is on the left side of the page and because of the lateness of the post, voting will run until Friday @ noon EST.

The other voting aspect of HJC is the weekly poll. Last week I asked what the most overused element is currently on NHL jerseys. Almost half of you (48%) said circle logos.I can't argue with that. I noted that after the Panthers did it, that it was enough. Columbus obviously doesn't read this blog and went ahead with a circle logo. 2nd place was retro jerseys with 29%. 3rd was collar ties at 12% and 4th was the retro white colour with 9%.

This week's poll is another 2 parter but, the 2 parts have nothing to do with one another. The main question is gauging interest in the Heritage Classic (especially amongst non-Canadians). It's simple, are you going to watch? Voting is on the right side of the page and runs until the game starts at 6pm EST on Sunday.

The other question I'm asking, is whether or not you readers would be interested in another rebrand/redesign competition. I ran a few of them before I came up with COTW. It went well at first but, interest sorta died after a few of them. Now, reader numbers seem to be up and I'm getting more concepts from all sorts of people. So, should we have another competition?

Speaking of concepts, lets get to them!

New York Islanders (by Jack)I'm a fan of bringing back these colours for use in an alternate jersey. I'm even nostalgic enough to put the fishsticks guy on the third jersey. Jack didn't go that far but, he did use the popular lighthouse logo.

St Louis Blues concept (by Mason)I love the current Blues 3rd jersey. I'm also quite happy that they haven't given into its popularity and created a matching white jersey such as Mason has done here. Don't get me wrong, I like this jersey, but I don't want to see it on the ice.

Philadelphia Flyers concept (by Robert)Robert runs a Flyers blog, The Orange Update,
The Orange Update logo
He sent in this concept as an idea for a Flyers 3rd jersey. He's currently running a contest on his site for the best Flyers 3rd jersey concept.

Atlanta Thrashers concepts (by Tom)There's a lot to talk about here. I can;t use this tiny little space to do it so please leave comments. I like that 3rd except for the bronze cuffs. I like the return of the original striping but, I don't like the gradient. Also, I wouldn't continue that gold line across the shoulders to the collar. This is a sharp set and a really great presentation also!

Pittsburgh Penguins concept (by Mason)Simple idea here but, I think it looks good. 1967 jersey, Edge-fied with the Winter Classic logo. I might be one of a handful of people who actually liked the Pens Classic sweater.

Pittsburgh Penguins concepts (by Chris)This is my all-time favourite Pens jersey. Chris has taken what was the shoulder patch, and promoted it to main crest. I'm actually surprised that I still like it.

Lost of concepts so leave lots of comments!

Can you post a graphic with ALL the circle logos currently in use in the NHl right now? (including Tampa's new one) I'd be interested to see how many there are.
